I've been reading that in hopes of speeding up games, teams will start with a runner on second base in extra innings. It is something they are toying with and will begin in the minor leagues. If successful, they will bring it to the majors for spring training games. And go from there. Oh boy!

Can runners be re-used (probably not)?
Strategic question: who's your fastest starting pitcher and when should he be used?
NFL screwed the pooch with new overtime and extra point rules. Baseball is 150 years old and hasn't done anything truly distructive to the game (designated hitter) in 34 years. Please, please don't change the extra innings rule.
If you can't defeat a team in 9 innings, you don't deserve to win.
There are a lot of things baseball can do that add up to shortening games. Putting a runner on second base to start in extra innings is ridiculous. How you going to score it? He didn't earn the right to be there. Plus, the first thing you are going to see is an intentional walk to set up the double play. Then the bunt to move the runners up. Then another intentional walk if the bunt is successful and the batter is thrown out at first. Then another intentional walk to set up the double play again.
Of course there is no telling what will happen. It could be a great bunt and the bases are loaded. A wild throw could ensue and a runner scores. A not so great bunt and they get the runner at third. But I believe the latter scenario will be the most common occurrence. It's a dumb idea. It cheapens the game big time. I know a lot of people screamed bloody murder when the DH was instituted. But this is totally off the way in my view.
With fastpitch softball, if you have an effective small ball game it gives you some pretty good opportunity to score. The defense has to bring their infield in to defend the bunt.
