Slide continues. Dallas jumps ahead of NY in the standings, currently the Knicks would be picking 8th.
Great college BB day. Lots of mediocre performances, a few great ones.
-Monk had 17 but on 15 shots.
-Fox had a clunker 3/12 shooting 7 points and 3 assists
-Smith Jr had 17 and 3 assists on 7/13
-Kennard had 25 points. Much more than a spot up shooter. If Buddy Hield went top 10 last year (although a poor draft) I think Kennard will absolutely be a first rounder at the very least.
-Meh days for Tatum, Isaac, and Markannen on offense at least.
Notable performance: Josh Jackson 31 points 11 rebounds 4 assists. 12/15 and 2/4 from 3. I watched the KU game, that was incredible. I was skeptical of Josh Jackson being a top pick but after watching him take over after frank Mason fouled out spoke volumes.
His defensive performance replicated his offense performance. He was flying around, causing deflections and had a key steal late. Oh and he played all 40 minutes... (but self said he came out for 20 seconds so there's that). He going to be a 2 guard in the mold of Iggy in the NBA I think. Surely doesn't play to his build.

Wouldn't ever encourage intentionally tanking games against Orlando and Philly...but you know. An Orlando win has screwed with our chances in the past.
Could possibly have 2 picks in top 10

I'd love Monk to be there. Lonzo is probably going 1st or 2nd overall but Monk is the next best pro in my opinion and he could be there at 8
Also, no more signing 30-year old vet FA who either are passed their best years or never had best years. Build through the draft, carefully sign high quality role players and target the 2-3 years for rebuilding.
By year 4, this young team could be ready to compete.

Will guarantee us one of Ball, Smith, Jackson and Isaac.

Monks going to be an elite scorer no doubt, but all of those guys have legit 2 way potential...which is desperately what this team needs. Best way to help KP and Willy on defense is giving them less to worry with on help defense.
Monk is someone who is going to have to guard 1s in the NBA but won't give you playmaking. Then comes Philly with Ben Simmons.
Wouldn't be against the pick at all but I'm looking at defense as much as offense with whoever we pick in this draft.
I'd say stay the same. He still gets bullied by bigger guys (he's absolutely not a center at this stage in his career...look what happened when Jokic guarded him) and misses rotations and has stupid fouls. But he does show flashes of weak side help on defense. His length bails him out a lot.
Also it probably looks worse but at least he had robin Lopez playing about 30 mpg last year. Noah hasn't played in a while and he plays like 22 minutes tops when he does play. That certainly doesn't put KP in a good spot.
Fox as a consolation prize isn't so bad. But yes, I would like the Knicks to get into top 4 position.
I still like Fox as much as Smith.
This. Smith reminds me a lot of Kyle Lowry. Fox more like Dennis Schroder. That's the difference between solid starter and All Star.
At first glance, a few games they might win are games vs Philly, Orlando, and the Nets. Maybe the best they can hope for is 6-12 in this stretch.

I think even that's prettt optimistic. Both Orlando games are away. One philly and one Nets game is away (though I can't see losing to the Nets). I'm giving them 7 more wins the rest of the year.

Denver is trading center Jusuf Nurkic to Portland, league sources tell the @TheVertical.

Well fuck my fantasy team. I didn't even play fantasy basketball but my friend told me he needed help on his so why not. Find out he cut Jokic at the start of the season and now Plumlee is going to be his backup.
Anyone outside of KP and and Willy they can gut us for that pick and I'd take bad contracts too!!!
Having two top picks would be so amazing
Worst case scenario I would definitely trade Melo for
The Clippers 2021 first round pick, I'm sure by then they will be a lottery team.
I think it was Denvers late pick. Plumlees a decent rotational player, probably something you'd hope for at the end of the first. But Denver has $20M committed to Faried and Arthur, has to resign Danilo (who plays some 4), has Chandler (another small ball 4) and Plumlee is a restricted FA. Oh an Jokic will command a max deal in 2 years. Not sure what the end game is with denver.
"a first" is a fairly meaningless concept. A late #1 isnt super valuable. Teams used to sell them for cash before the league banned it. Though #1s have become more valuable in the modern NBA, where starters play less.
Why is Denver trading for a center?

plumlee got the blazers a first in this years draft? how is that possible?

I think Faried might be on the move. Plumlee pretty much brings the same skills as Faried but without the size flaws and is a good passer.
Totally agree with you on the late first concept, but you don't give up any first and a young player that's cost controlled for a RFA unless that player fits in your plans somehow.
Gallo or Chandler could be on the move as well.
Derrick Rose and some 2nds for Mudiay. Get it done.
Plus he won't get overpowered by PFs on defense and probably offers better rim protection than anyone on Denver's roster currently even though hes not quite a stopper.

I saw something about Chandler being unhappy and wanting a trade. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go.
You mean DJ Wilson on Michigan?
Quote:
time watching him play but is DJ Davis not a pro-prospect? I don't see him listed on DX but good size and active.
You mean DJ Wilson on Michigan?
Yeah sorry, DJ Wilson. Looks pretty agile for a guy listed at 6'10. Blocks shots. He's not even listed on DX's mock. Just a good game?
Zak Irvin is another good michigan senior. Can step up in the NBA like Caris Lavert. Has size, some shooting a playmaking.

I'm just casually watching (admittedly I watch very little college basketball outside of the tourney/specifically watching games of the top prospects but he looks interesting enough in the way Taj Gibson does. He's active, tall and has shot the ball well. Totally understood this may be an outlier, mostly was just impressed with how well he moved.

To be honest I've not heard of him before today but he's shooting 40% from 3 on the year. Michigans had a good track record with upper class men recently (at least on court wise) with Lavert and Mcgary.
Would you trade Rose for Turner and Ezeli for 2 1st round picks from Portland?
Good, let him start rest of season
The expectation is that Latrell Sprewell, long at odds with Jim Dolan, will attend today's Knick game as an NYK guest, as @FisolaNYDN said.
Turners contract is very, very, very bad. Ezeli at least expires after next season. Don't know what better use for cap space there is at this point.
Would help the tanking cause even though he has the appearance of being a decent vet.
Don't do this dep...not today...
