NFT: Knicks Chat 2/12

giantsfan44ab : 2/12/2017 10:57 am
Slide continues. Dallas jumps ahead of NY in the standings, currently the Knicks would be picking 8th.

Great college BB day. Lots of mediocre performances, a few great ones.

-Monk had 17 but on 15 shots.

-Fox had a clunker 3/12 shooting 7 points and 3 assists

-Smith Jr had 17 and 3 assists on 7/13

-Kennard had 25 points. Much more than a spot up shooter. If Buddy Hield went top 10 last year (although a poor draft) I think Kennard will absolutely be a first rounder at the very least.

-Meh days for Tatum, Isaac, and Markannen on offense at least.

Notable performance: Josh Jackson 31 points 11 rebounds 4 assists. 12/15 and 2/4 from 3. I watched the KU game, that was incredible. I was skeptical of Josh Jackson being a top pick but after watching him take over after frank Mason fouled out spoke volumes.

His defensive performance replicated his offense performance. He was flying around, causing deflections and had a key steal late. Oh and he played all 40 minutes... (but self said he came out for 20 seconds so there's that). He going to be a 2 guard in the mold of Iggy in the NBA I think. Surely doesn't play to his build.

Touch Rose with a 450 foot pole.

And that's not to say they will trade for rose, but he is a massive upgrade over Tony parker.
Mills is

As good a back up PG as there is in the NBA and a vastly superior shooter and defender to Rose.

Regardless of that, how does he fit the actual Spurs system?
Wait he wasn't even in that draft

People are going to wonder how the Spurs got a top 10 pick talent at 29. People won't actually wonder because it's the Spurs but you get my point.

OK mills can back up rose. Rose is a player who can play in a pick n roll system quite easily. They have no one who can get the ball to the basket. And let's not act like Parker is some lock down defender.
Ignoring the fact

That Mills is so much superior as a defender and shooter, the Spurs don't run that much PnR, and hardly run any ISO. Rose would be a horrible fit offensively, as he is for most teams in the modern NBA, and makes no sense at all defensively.
with aldridge and gasol

Pick n roll would be the staple. And the Spurs still don't have 1 player who can penetrate or breaking down a defense.

But you're right, no one is beating the warriors. So why try and improve.

Let's add patty mills to the list of overrated players in the league.

So they should move the offense away from their MVP candidate to make Rose fit? And Patty Mills is the overrated one?
Nice win this afternoon.

Last time I checked leonard isn't a point guard. And he's not a Russ or harden where he has the ball in his hands every possession.

If you think patty mills is better than derrick rose, yes you are over rating him. He's a spot up shooter. He's more of a 2 guard at this juncture. The Spurs do not have a single guard now who can break down a defense and get easy buckets.
