My wife and I are planning a short stay in Charleston in mid March. We have never been there before and are uncertain what area to stay in. We are in our late 50's -early 60's and very active. We love to walk, bike, hike etc. Any suggestions?
Good recommendations on here. Probably depends on your Price range. The remodeled Vendue is very nice and will put in right in the center of things....plus they have that great Rooftop Bar, weather permitting. The weather can be tricky in mid-March. But this past weekend was absolutely beautiful. Every 2nd Sunday of the month they close King Street to car traffic and it becomes a pedestrian mall. I counted 6 different street bands along the way.
I always recommend taking a carriage tour to get the feel for some of the side streets. If you see a place you like, you can always walk back to it. The Historical Society is holding their House and Garden Walking tours in March if you like that sort of stuff. Everything is will be in bloom.
Are you going to be here around St Paddy's Day ?? They do a great parade, and Tommy Condon's Pub is right there at the end of the route.
There was a list of Restaurants posted on here about 2 months ago. everybody's top 5 are going to be the same, so just pick a major food group and go.
However, we're going down next week, and are staying (just to change it up a little) at the Harbourview Inn; looks good on the review sites.
