turning the "advantage" for the left of having the rich & famous pimp your product into a stark disadvantage (Thomas Frank wrote a great book about it a number of years back).
Actually, through their haughty condescension and doctrinal absolutism they did the right's job for them.

Right. I love how the left colluded so that all scientists, and professors, you know, individual free-thinkers who've explicitly devoted their lives to learning and expanding human understanding, would mindlessly parrot liberal talking points.
but if you think every free and independent-thinking intelligent person is of a single mind about politics or much of anything I don't know what to tell you.

That's exactly my point. I shouldn't have taken the bait either. I'm out.
Clint Eastwood's entire career is based on one skill. Acting. Â
before the ban on political threads became more or less inflexible, was that people actually emerged from echo chambers to talk about things, because BBI gathers a pretty wide breadth of viewpoints and backgrounds and we're here for a purpose other than to talk politics. Self-selecting political audiences tend to be much more homogenous.
My question is, for the people who watched the Grammy's Â

I strongly agree with this. While it was never a particularly successful undertaking on BBI, I think the angles from which it's been approached within this thread shows evidence that many of us are used to speaking about these issues among those who mostly already agree. Myself included.
RE: My question is, for the people who watched the Grammy's Â
If he didn't act noone would have a clue who he was. Don't ever call him a director and especially not a producer. Get a grip fanboy.
Eastwood isn't a great director? The two Oscars for best director, he found those in a Cracker Jack box? I mean, I knew you weren't overly bright but you don't need to advertise that fact.

Speaking of doctrinal absolutism. And please tell me who all these scientists and professors are who are going on these rants during awards shows.

Then why are you bothering yourself with watching her performance? It clearly wasn't meant for you.
Personally, I don't like Keith Urban - so if I see him on Grammys I just change the channel and keep my mouth shut about it (because ranting about the performance of an artist that you don't like only makes you sound like the douche).
I can't imagine the amount of indignation that would happen if Obama was called President Nappy Head or something along those lines, but yet we will file President Agent Orange under the heading of creative awesomeness.
Award shows ironically just highlight the hypocrisy that insult throwing one direction is OK - the other direction, not so much.
I understand your larger point about calling out the POTUS, but I do want to throw in there that there's a substantial difference between a bad tan and calling someone out on a caricature of a racial feature.
Seriously, music is the biggest passion in my life, and being a musician is part of who I am, but I cannot understand why anyone gives a shit about the Grammy's to be honest.
Especially with the fragmentation of the music industry and the fact that it no longer funnels up through the major label system that provided a shared sense of culturally relevant music (to an extent, at least -- much moreso than exists today)
Actually, through their haughty condescension and doctrinal absolutism they did the right's job for them.
While no doubt contributors to the demise of their own ideas (although not their wallets, which obviously benefit from GOP policies) the decrying of supposed "elitism" has been a hallmark of the right wing playbook for years.
Endless shouting of the likes of "limousine liberal" and "big city bubble" and "the real America" duly drowns out their incessant whispers of "keep cutting that capital gains tax....they're paying attention to Clooney and Streep...just keep cutting it."

RE: she's so classy, you can see why she's concerned about public discours Â
"Now my mascara running, red lipstick smudged/ Yeah, he's so horny he wants to f---/ He popped all my buttons and he ripped my blouse/ He Monica Lewinsky-ed all on my gown/ Oh Daddy, Daddy, he didn't bring the towel/ Oh baby, baby, we better slow it down"
or
"I came to slay bitch, when he F me good I take his ass to red lobster"
a total pig. just go away
Entertainment lyrics and public discourse are completely different. This just seems irrelevant.
Wow, this is better than the actual Grammy thread Â

Actually, I think "flyover country" and "clinging to their guns and religion" (even if they owned no guns) was even more effective. Add to that the nationwide middle to upper middle class exclamation beginning around 23 years ago of "what the hell is AMT?" when the minimum AMT rate got jacked up by the '93 tax bill.
and she works very hard at her craft. I don't particularly care for her music and I agree that this deification of her is over the top and silly, but you don't have to run her down to make your point.

This might surprise you, but, it's Beyonce's singing as a solo artist and member of Destiny's Child that has made her both fortunate and relevant. And I say this as someone who could not be less of a fan of her music or style.

Agreed. That being said, Adele blows here away.
RE: Beyonce is a supremely talented entertainer... Â
I guess she is talented. But, let's not overstate just how talented she is. She doesn't write her music or lyrics, but insists on writing credits for every album because that is where the money is. That's just one example.
But last night was a little too much. I have tuned out awards shows like I have tuned out Facebook.
No... she is fortunate and that has made her relevant. There are far more talented women out there. Still waiting for Beyonce to sing.
Really? Here. - ( New Window )
yeah... really. Half of the fools in American Idol can sing that. Seriously the singing in that video you posted is NOT anything special. For the average person yes but not for a 'singer".
Her last one was so self-serving and narcissistic, so why should this come as a surprise? When she gave birth the first time around she bought out the maternity ward at Lennox Hill in Manhattan, although the hospital denied it was "bought out". Parents with infants in NICU were barred from seeing their children while Beyonce was in the hospital and no visitors were allowed in the ward. It was disgusting. I thank G-d all the time that my daughter was born a couple of weeks later, because I would have ended up in jail had they tried to bar me from being in the hospital with my wife and newborn.
Of course, after the fact they said the money went to build a private maternity suite, but that is BS. they have private rooms, but this was different. Luxury facilities the equivalent of something like half a floor. It was really disgraceful, but the worst was how she and her husband got a pass for the most part.

She can 'fucking sing'. This has been proven. It's actually indisputable fact. For some reason, you're letting the animosity towards the message she was presenting jade you to simple facts.
territories soon. This game is a youth thing in terms of music sales. Soon you will see here pimping to young guys, some gay, some hipsters. Until they finally realize she is the age of their mom and then move on...all explained by the rising adoption slope, maturity then the next wave replaces you. She wants her $$$ going out and probably using the baby thing like that Kardashian woman does as well. How she goes about entertainment is predictable but to turn her own pregnancy into an act to me is a bit self-serving....nothing is safe anymore. Aside from that she is not the smartest person walking around if you have ever listened to her for more than 5m.
Beyonce is one of the most overrated singers of all time. Â
Carlos Santana on Beyoncé’s GRAMMY Loss: ‘She’s Not a Singer’
“I think that Adele won because she can sing, sing,” Santana told the Australian Associated Press (via New Zealand Herald).
To make matters worse, he also tried to qualify the difference between Adele’s talent and Beyoncé’s. “With all respect to our sister Beyoncé,” he said, “Beyoncé is very beautiful to look at and it’s more like modeling kind of music—music to model a dress—she’s not a singer, singer, with all respect to her.” Link - ( New Window )
