Calling her a singer is like calling Michael Jackson a singer... Just not the case. She's an entertainer and its clear that's she is currently the best entertainer in the world, her live performances are on a different level than anyone else's. She killed it last night IMO.

Many of these people don't realize that a very large majority of the country has had enough of them and so they continue to hurt their own "cause".
While this is a good talking point I've heard often the last 6 months, I see no evidence to suggest this is true. Besides the 90 million eligible people to vote who didn't (so we don't actually know what the majority of the country thinks), the fact award shows, housewife shows, reality game shows, reality voyeur shows, entertainment magazine shows, celebrity talk shows, celebrity interviews on talk shows, red carpet fashion shows still exist would seem to indicate that no, "a very large majority of the country" has not had enough.
1986 you're a moron

Her entire career is based on one skill. Singing. If she didn't sing noone would have a clue who she was. Get a grip fanboy.
What a simplistic, black and white way to look at life. His point about Jackson shows why. So to use your logic since no one would have known who Michael Jackson is if he hadn't been a singer that means he is not a dancer, actor, entertainer, etc.
I can't imagine the amount of indignation that would happen if Obama was called President Nappy Head or something along those lines, but yet we will file President Agent Orange under the heading of creative awesomeness.
Award shows ironically just highlight the hypocrisy that insult throwing one direction is OK - the other direction, not so much.
That windbag has dealt out his fair share of attacks on people's appearance. If he can't deal it coming back his way, he's a bigger pussy than I already think he is.

turning the "advantage" for the left of having the rich & famous pimp your product into a stark disadvantage (Thomas Frank wrote a great book about it a number of years back).
Generally sympathetic to their policy prescriptions, even I find them mostly nauseating. In large part because, with some exceptions like Matt Damon and John Legend (off the top of my head), they're just not very bright.
The irony - one that is not lost on the more mentally aware & discerning among us - is that the eye-rollers will then turn around and vote for huge tax cuts to 7 figure capital gains and ditching the estate tax...policies which don't just cater to the elite (be they in Hollywood, Wall Street, or Wichita and Omaha) but which cater to them while simultaneously sucking them off with multiple fingers up their bleached assholes.

Actually, through their haughty condescension and doctrinal absolutism they did the right's job for them.

Right. I love how the left colluded so that all scientists, and professors, you know, individual free-thinkers who've explicitly devoted their lives to learning and expanding human understanding, would mindlessly parrot liberal talking points.
but if you think every free and independent-thinking intelligent person is of a single mind about politics or much of anything I don't know what to tell you.

That's exactly my point. I shouldn't have taken the bait either. I'm out.
Clint Eastwood's entire career is based on one skill. Acting.
before the ban on political threads became more or less inflexible, was that people actually emerged from echo chambers to talk about things, because BBI gathers a pretty wide breadth of viewpoints and backgrounds and we're here for a purpose other than to talk politics. Self-selecting political audiences tend to be much more homogenous.
My question is, for the people who watched the Grammy's

I strongly agree with this. While it was never a particularly successful undertaking on BBI, I think the angles from which it's been approached within this thread shows evidence that many of us are used to speaking about these issues among those who mostly already agree. Myself included.
RE: My question is, for the people who watched the Grammy's
If he didn't act noone would have a clue who he was. Don't ever call him a director and especially not a producer. Get a grip fanboy.
Eastwood isn't a great director? The two Oscars for best director, he found those in a Cracker Jack box? I mean, I knew you weren't overly bright but you don't need to advertise that fact.

Speaking of doctrinal absolutism. And please tell me who all these scientists and professors are who are going on these rants during awards shows.

Then why are you bothering yourself with watching her performance? It clearly wasn't meant for you.
Personally, I don't like Keith Urban - so if I see him on Grammys I just change the channel and keep my mouth shut about it (because ranting about the performance of an artist that you don't like only makes you sound like the douche).

I understand your larger point about calling out the POTUS, but I do want to throw in there that there's a substantial difference between a bad tan and calling someone out on a caricature of a racial feature.
Seriously, music is the biggest passion in my life, and being a musician is part of who I am, but I cannot understand why anyone gives a shit about the Grammy's to be honest.
Especially with the fragmentation of the music industry and the fact that it no longer funnels up through the major label system that provided a shared sense of culturally relevant music (to an extent, at least -- much moreso than exists today)
Actually, through their haughty condescension and doctrinal absolutism they did the right's job for them.
While no doubt contributors to the demise of their own ideas (although not their wallets, which obviously benefit from GOP policies) the decrying of supposed "elitism" has been a hallmark of the right wing playbook for years.
Endless shouting of the likes of "limousine liberal" and "big city bubble" and "the real America" duly drowns out their incessant whispers of "keep cutting that capital gains tax....they're paying attention to Clooney and Streep...just keep cutting it."

RE: she's so classy, you can see why she's concerned about public discours
"Now my mascara running, red lipstick smudged/ Yeah, he's so horny he wants to f---/ He popped all my buttons and he ripped my blouse/ He Monica Lewinsky-ed all on my gown/ Oh Daddy, Daddy, he didn't bring the towel/ Oh baby, baby, we better slow it down"
or

a total pig. just go away
Entertainment lyrics and public discourse are completely different. This just seems irrelevant.
I want to make sure I don't get ensnared in their trap.
I didn't know the grammys were even on. We watched Homeland and went to bed.

Yeah, that's really dumb. Please don't use it as a brush to paint many reasonable people who wouldn't agree.
Actually, through their haughty condescension and doctrinal absolutism they did the right's job for them.
It's totally true, songs and performances are not supposed to [is]say[/i] anything, ever!

I can't remember the last awards show I've actually sat through and watched. Maybe the AMA's when MC Hammer was popular?

Pretty much what I was thinking while reading this thread. Some of the things some of you guys complain about are pretty weird.
