So NOW we have 32 million in cap space....

Dry Lightning : 2/13/2017 6:24 pm
for weeks I have been hearing that number thinking when these cuts came, we would have 40 million. So all these other fucking teams and there numbers are AS OF NOW but we are AFTER CUTS. WTF?
Giants had around 23M
pjcas18 : 2/13/2017 6:27 pm : link
coming into the off-season because people I guess were not counting Pugh's 5th year option (8.8M).

Once the Giants exercised that option they went from 32M in space to 23.2M.

the cuts today bring the Giants back to around 32M.
If JT Thomas is cut as is being speculated
pjcas18 : 2/13/2017 6:29 pm : link
that frees up another 3M.
Is that the actual amount now
Eman11 : 2/13/2017 6:36 pm : link
Without the cap going up? Or is that based on taking the cap increase into account?

Eman - no one knows what the cap increase is yet -- it will be announced this week
Actually we are at

34,125,039 of the cap is set at 168 million. Most think it will be a bit higher at 170 million. Also we will probably cut JT Thomas and save 3 million. So if we cut him and the salary cap goes to 170 million we'd have 39,125,039.

Great question, that assumes a 2017 base salary cap of 168M. 2016 was 155M.

Most estimates for 2017 are between 166M and 170M.
I'm not worried about the cap
jcn56 : 2/13/2017 6:48 pm : link
we'll have enough to spend to fill some holes. My only concern is that they repeat last year's exercise of spending wisely.
Hopefully we can extend Pugh

Which would free up some cap space. Possibly rework DRC's deal. Even if neither of those happen we will have about 40 million to play around with.

To put that into context Oliver Vernon, Jackrabbit, Snacks, Keenan Robinson, Bobby Rainey, Will Johnson, Kelvin Sheppard, Leon Hall & Coty Sensabaugh cost us 34,493,345 in cap space last year. So we can sign quite a few good players and not spend as much as we did last year.
I'm not sure how much it is, but we have to set aside a few million

for our draft picks.

Over the cap is more accurate than sport-trac IMO. One example is DRC. Sport-trac has his salary 500k too low, because DRC had a 500k salary escalator for 2017 when he caught his 5th interception in the last game of the season.

Sport trac has him 500k too low and probably more like that.

I've seen it estimated at around $6M.

Thanks for the info. I thought maybe I missed the increase announcement. Good to know we'll have even more than that to spend.

OTC has us a bit below 32 million and Spotrac has us a bit over 34 million. I was just talking to Raanan and he said his number is at 34 million also.
i dont see why pugh
Dankbeerman : 2/13/2017 9:18 pm : link
would sign an extension. he will make good money this year and likely get more on the open market. plus someteam might see him and pay him as a tackle
Cut JT, Veeren Extend Pugh... that gets us another 10 mil
est1986 : 2/13/2017 9:48 pm : link
5 years 70 million to JPP 30 gtd (10 million in year 1)
3 years 50 million to Calais Campbell 30 gtd (15 million in year 1)

Should have close to 15-20 million in cap after that.. Who cares after that. Draft a RB, WR, TE, LB, CB and 2 OL.

Ok. I know the sport trac # for DRC is wrong. Didn't check beyond that. Jordan is usually right.
Hankins..JPP...WR...Draft TE
Rafflee : 2/13/2017 10:43 pm : link
I believe Hank is more inportant to this D than JPP. They can create an edge rush, but there's no sub for a Run Stopper to pair with Snacks.

Need a Vet BODY Wideout... They need to use the rest of the Money (if any) and the Top of the Draft on O Line and a TE

Geez, what are they waiting for? This one is a no brainer unless Herzlich is getting his walking papers and we want to keep at least one useless Special Team LB on the roster...
