NFT: The Young Pope

Didn't see a thread on this over the last couple weeks. Anyone watch it? I was hesitant but curious going in, I think it got stronger as it went. Jude law was an interesting casting but did well.

About to watch the finale, is this a one season show? They keep saying limited series...
Just amazing

Season 2 already confirmed.
Saw previews while watching westworld

Is it a comedy? Certainly peaked my interest.
Phrased that poorly

I know it's a drama, but are there comedic aspects to it?
It has its comedic moments

But far from a comedy. An interesting, dramatized take on the church.
Going to watch the finale in a few minutes

It's been a really good show and episode 9 was flat out amazing. Truly one of the best hours of TV I've seen in quite some time. There are some really great characters. Gutierrez was a compelling figure and Voiello was hilarious. And of course Jude Law has been great. I also thought the show used music very well too. The scene of Law getting ready to address the Cardinals with LMFAOs Sexy and You Know It was pretty awesome.

A second season has been confirmed but like Westworld, it's apparently going to be quite awhile until we get it. With this and Taboo winding down I'm glad Legion is off to a strong start.
Kinda reminds me of House of Cards

Watched the first few episodes but haven't been able to finish it yet.
Extraordinary stuff

My wife and I were fascinated and the characters were multi-dimensional. And what a great character Silvio Orlando plays as Cardinal Voiello (sp?), the perfect Machievellian in what must be a Vatican political nightmare. Jude's relationship with Sister Mary is also great and sometimes mercurial. Can't wait for the second season.

I'm also trying to figure the point of the series What is it meant to convey about the Pope and the Church in general in the large scheme of things.
I haven't watched this yet, but from the posts on this thread,

I have to try it. MM, just wondering, but could they be putting out several points of view and asking each viewer to decide?
Very good show

I was concerned this would either be heavy handed or offensive, but it actually turned out to be pretty interesting. Very layered, and I'd almost say the presentation is very cinematic. There are many sweeping vistas and large format shots.

I have this week's episodes recorded to see where this all ends up.
what was the deal with the timing

I thought it was a Sunday night show that started this january, but it seemed like it may actually be from the fall.

did HBO buy this from someone and re-broadcast it?

I look at the FiOS info button on the guide for each show and the original air dates are October 2016.

I need to catch up, missed a couple episodes, not a huge fan though.

Good question and I can't tell. It's certainly seems anti politics in what should be a spiritual endeavor. It's complicated by the fact that John appears and acts so ambiguously towards the faith. It's like he's always TRYING to be faithful rather than being faithful. And he has a strong streak of pettiness and vengefulness.

character arc is pretty amazing, and the supporting acting by some of the Cardinals is just superb (Voiello, Gutierrez in particular).

Also felt the last three episodes were some great payoffs. Can't wait for more.

And echo comment above that Episode 9 was one of the best single TV episodes I've seen in a long, long time.
