Mel Gibson is mulling joining the DC Extended Universe … as a director.

Warner Bros. is courting the actor-director to helm Suicide Squad 2 and the sides are early in talks, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. No official offer has been made nor has any commitment.

Sources say that Gibson is familiarizing himself with the material.

Ugh. Why?

The first one was a steaming pile of corn encrusted shit.

Your ability to paint a picture with words is beyond compare my friend. I can instantly see what you're talking about.
First one was dreadful
djm : 2/15/2017 9:47 pm : link
But honestly if Mel Gibson directs the second I'd bet it's awesome .The guy is crazier than a shit house rat but he is a great movie director.
Weird

I thought Gibson was outed as a Jew-hating and racist psycho.

I guess talent wins over being a human piece of shit in all walks of life.

Also - suicide squad was the worst movie I have watched in years and I routinely turn on Nicolas Cage B movies to watch on the treadmill.

But the son of a bitch knows story structure"

Calling it like it is and aiming to please, sir.
Hacksaw Ridge was one of the best movies I saw last year.
shelovesnycsports : 2/15/2017 10:15 pm : link
It really is a fine film and the acting and direction is very well done. Its not your average War film. Although parts are very brutal. The Cast was outstanding including Vince Vaughn.
But
shelovesnycsports : 2/15/2017 10:16 pm : link
wasting his talent on a DC fanboy movie is just wrong. Let him direct the Batman movie or the Team up.
I don't think it will matter
Knineteen : 2/16/2017 1:26 am : link
I'm convinced, regardless of content, Marvel gets treated like GOLD while DC, like shit.

I'm hoping Wonder Woman will buck that trend.
The difference is that the worst Marvel movies
JerryNYG : 2/16/2017 5:24 am : link
are still fun and watchable, while the new wave DC movies are more pseudo-serious grimdark bullshit.

DC movies seem to be taking a page from 1990s comic books, which admittedly is not the best era to crib from.

I think the worst Marvel movie is either Iron Man 2 or Thor. I would take either over Suicide Squad or Batman v. Superman.
Also, I agree
JerryNYG : 2/16/2017 5:25 am : link
I do hope Wonder Woman bucks the trend. The trailer looks good and Gal Gadot was the highlight and bright spot of the horrific shitfest that was BvS.
I think WB is slowly turning the corner
Vin R : 2/16/2017 8:33 am : link
They just need to let their directors do what they do best and not have too many cooks in the kitchen.

Example: Locking Ayers out of the editing room for Suicide Squad

Eh, they're adults, I'm sure they could work something out if they wanted. Polanski had A-listers dying to work with him.

On Wednesday, Mel Gibson became the first name attached to the gig. According to The Hollywood Reporter, WB is in "early talks" with the controversial director of Braveheart and Passion of the Christ about directing Suicide Squad 2. And hours later, while attending a screening of his Oscar-nominated film Hacksaw Ridge at the Aero Theatre in Santa Monica, Gibson confirmed the report.

During the Q&A session, the moderator asked, "So is this getting close to a deal or is it a first date?" To which Gibson replied, "It’s kind of a first date."

Meanwhile, Variety's Justin Kroll is reporting that Warner Bros. is also considering Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland), Daniel Espinosa (Safe House), and Jonathan Levine (Warm Bodies), but Gibson is the frontrunner and can have the job if he wants it.

"Couple updates on the SUICIDE SQUAD director search since I posted after a few calls," Kroll tweeted. "First if Mel wants it, it's his." He added, "Will and Mel actually wanted to do THE ACCOUNTANT years ago but old regime didn't want Mel but shows how much Mel want to work with Will.
I'd rather Gibson do something else

but he makes the project notable. I still don't by WB turning a corner. They only want to hit their timeline and nothing else. Affleck may be out as Batman, rumors buzzing daily about him being fed up with everything at WB.
Jew hater, yes.

Never heard anything racist from him, though, not that I pay close attention.

WB turning corner came from media outlets who were on the JL set

Pretty sure he referenced wet backs a few times, definitely used the N word. I was under the impression he flamed out hard enough after the phone call, rants, racism, etc.... that he was "blackballed". Turns out his ability to direct very good movies won out handily.
Sucks, he implied in an interview
widmerseyebrow : 2/16/2017 9:07 am : link
That his Viking epic (Beserker) is on hold because of the recent explosion of Viking based television shows. As in the market is over saturated. An Apocolypto level Viking movie would be great.
Why not?
Greg from LI : 2/16/2017 9:08 am : link
Worked for Polanski.

It's probably a reference to the transcript of the recorded phone conversation with his wife...

Maybe, but the constant rumors of Affleck wanting out kind of go against that. Not that Affleck is some big loss as an actor, but to not even want his creative input seems ludicrous.

That rumor came from John Campea and I like him a lot as far as movie news goes, he even said not to fully trust that rumor but we'll see
He's
Pete in MD : 2/16/2017 10:05 am : link
actually directed some pretty solid movies and one great one with Braveheart. Then again, there was also that one where he has Jim Caviezel pummeled for two hours.
