Cooley speculates Skins McCloughan back on the sauce.....

Dry Lightning : 2/15/2017 10:31 pm
Fascinating palace intrigue. Good article, with some nice insight at the end. So.....he is either back to being a complete boozehound or Snyder wants to banish him and start making the football decisions. Good for us either way. Cheers!

Go. Nahh even Snyder is not that stupid.
This sums it up nicely

And so there seem to be three possible results of this speculation:

1. A team employee, on a Dan Snyder-owned radio station, falsely suggested that the team’s general manager relapsed into drinking. That seems not great.

2. A team employee, on a Dan Snyder-owned radio station, correctly guessed that the team’s general manager relapsed into drinking. That, also, seems not great.

3. A team employee was fed unflattering information about the team’s general manager by a palace rival, which he then placed into the public sphere, via a Dan Snyder-owned radio station. That seems both impossibly Machiavellian, and also in-keeping with modern D.C.

And also: not great.

After we ended their season there were some mentions in the media that Snyder just never wanted Cousins and sees his 'success' as a personal slight. Which seems bizarre, but in keeping with Snyder's previous.
Add to this

Cooley is a piece of garbage. And he fits in perfectly on ESPN 980 with the rest of those chuckleheads.

Bizarre for some, but it would fit his ego to the T if true. Supposedly, he's pissed because Cousins was Shanahan's pick. I'm sure the hardline negotiating stance hasn't helped his cause with him either.
Cooley is garbage.
Beezer : 2/16/2017 8:00 am : link

I don't remember much about him, aside from him kind of being a clown. Good player for a while.

Literal question - why is he garbage?

Maybe it's just me, but airing a person's struggles with alcohol when you essentially don't know anything about the situation is unseemly. I get that he's a "sports radio personality" and admittedly knows a lot about the Redskins by dint of his playing days and film study, but this is something I don't think should be aired. Maybe if the gm enters a rehab facility, then it's obviously news, but until there's confirmation one way or the other, then keep your thoughts to yourself.

There are other examples of Cooley shooting off his mouth without knowing anything, but - like I said - he fits in perfectly at that station with guys like Czaban, Doc Walker, etc. The very early morning guy - Al Galdi - is an exception. He's very, very good.
Snyder bought the station so he could control what is said about his

This. I hope it's not true, but if anything will drive someone to drink, it would be working for Danny boy.

If this is subterfuge to ruin McCloughan's reputation, that is disgusting, even for Snyder.
Cooley is awful on multiple levels.
TheManUpstairs : 2/16/2017 9:45 am : link
He's nasty. He's not funny. He's not particularly insightful; each year, as he knows fewer players from his playing days, he's a little less interesting.

It's bad radio.
The Skins love their former "stars"...
Dunedin81 : 2/16/2017 9:51 am : link
but unless Snyder was comfortable with this revelation it may be the end of Cooley's tenure. It's potentially actionable, I would think, and it's really just a mean-spirited rumor to spread. Cooley has also been somewhat critical of Snyder et al, so I'd imagine they were on the lookout for a reason to torpedo him.
Does anyone

remember Cooley's strange reality show with his now ex-wife? They actually had a large nude photo of themselves, in a pose that looks like they are having sex, hanging above the fireplace. Classy!
Cooley was a small town kid when he got to DC and went nuts
DCOrange : 2/16/2017 10:45 am : link
He immediately divorced the wife he came to town with after getting involved with a Redskin cheerleader (which was against the rules). From there he became a legendary drunk all around Northern Virginia before marrying the cheerleader without a prenupt - and subsequently getting divorced and cleaned out. His saving grace is that he played for the right team in the right market as he can make several hundred thousand every year just because he was a Redskin.
I think Cooley is insightful
NoPeanutz : 2/16/2017 11:03 am : link
When he does his film breakdowns. It's a pretty good segment.

I forgot about that. Cooley really is a walking idiot outside of those film segments.

That's absolutely true. I mean, most teams do that to a point, but few to the extent of the Redskins.
The Skins combine an irrational, over the top fanhood...

with a lack of recent success, which means relative mediocrities can make a killing. We as Giant fans love nostalgia, but we've had enough success over the last couple decades that most of the guys we trot out have at least hoisted a Lombardi Trophy in blue.
And, while I absolutely don't want to discuss the merits of it
Greg from LI : 2/16/2017 1:01 pm : link
the nickname controversy has, I believe, inspired a kind of bunker mentality in their fans where the whole world is out to get them, which only added paranoia to their usual delusions.

Oh absofreaking lutely. He works FOR THE TEAM, they sign his paychecks, Snyder is and always has been a fan boy and Cooley is his little secret best friend who can tell "secrets" to and make it sound like speculation. I don't usually go in on this stuff but I have zero doubt this is from Snyder and something isn't going right.
