NFT: RIP Wrestling legend George "The Animal" Steele

DanMetroMan : 2/17/2017 9:40 am
Per Hulk Hogan's twitter feed. He was 79. True legend.
Lots of childhood memories of him eating the turnbuckle
Britt in VA : 2/17/2017 9:49 am : link
and always trying to kidnap Miss Elizabeth.

Ironically, he was a very smart and well spoken guy. A college professor, I believe.

R.I.P.
he played a big part in

one of the most beloved matches of all time...the Ricky Steamboat vs. Macho Man match for the IC title at WM 3. And of course him eating the turnbuckle was always hysterical.
One of my favorites

Great memories of him wrestling. Lovd the wild look in his eyes as he looked around the arena after chewing the turnbuckle. Him and Ivan Putski were my favorites.
My favortie wrestler back in the day

Used to love watching him and Sgt Slaughter
He was a fave
Gap92 : 2/17/2017 10:25 am : link
growing up for sure. I always liked the unusual wrestlers/gimmick like George, Kamala, the Missing Link, the Great Kabuki...

He actually had a master's degree in education before he became The Animal.

wrestling back then always did a good job with the little details. Like saying a guy was from "parks unknown". That always killed me.
dont forget

he was my guy in 1982 or 83 right before the WWF blew up .One of the only legends I did not have a chance to meet that was still alive .Had a chance in 2013 or 2014 at one of the legends of the ring conventions but he cancelled his appearance due to travel issues
Aw that sucks

He was HS teacher and football coach for a large chunk of his wresting career. A true wrestling icon.
Wow

So he was already pretty old (well, for a wrestler) when I watched him! RIP

I'd heard the story of him being a teacher when not in "character", but didn't realize till I just looked him up that he went to Michigan State to play football. Apparently football career ended due to knee injury
Annoucer, "George, say something."

when our WWF heroes are dying. Loved George. He was awesome. It's just like yesterday.

USA Network, Sunday at noon, spaghettios on my tv tray, Dad chilling on the couch watching with me. Some of the greatest moments and memories of my life.

Man it goes by fast.
He was great

I'm older, and remember watching wrestling when it was only on TV at midnight on Saturday on WOR-TV in the New York area!
He was perfect as Tor Johnson

My absolutely favorite wrestler of all time.
short lease : 2/18/2017 12:31 am : link
And, nobody is a close 2nd (for me) ... loved that look of astonished bewilderment on his face when he was in the ring ... only to have it change to extreme rage when he would attack his opponent.

I wonder why the refs could never find his "candy cane" ...

RIP!
Cause of death
TheGhostofBlueGuy : 2/18/2017 1:08 am : link
was listed as excessive turnbuckle foam consumption...
Ivan
