NFT: I've seen two very good movies this week

Steve L : 2/17/2017 12:45 pm
I donated platelets so had spare time and watched "Arrival." What a great movie. No real action, but a fantastic story, great writing and top-notch acting.

Today I am home with a sick kid and saw "The Accountant." I am not a huge Affleck fan, but this was full of action, cool story and, as much as it kills me to say this, Affleck was very good.

Highly recommend them both.
I don't really understand
santacruzom : 2/17/2017 12:49 pm : link
the widespread animosity towards Affleck. There are more deserving and more prolific Hollywood people to hate, no? He's actually a very effective director.

Having said that, I have every expectation that The Accountant sucks.
The wife and I are going to watch Arrival on Sat night

This week is my choice and I want to see this movie.

The Accountant

Very good movie. Affleck is a good actor. I also liked Hacksaw Ridge
We watched Bleed For This

during the snow day last week, not the best movie ever but we found it very entertaining.

Is Arrival even still in theaters? Pretty sure I can watch it at home on pay per view.

I saw it on DVD.
I've seen both movies twice - both are very good

I actually like Arrival better through second time I watched it. I was able to pick up more of the subtleties. I agree on Adfleck, I like him. I enjoyed a lot of his movies, such as The Town, Good Will Hunting, The Accountant, Gone Girl, Batman, Runner Runner, and of course Argo. I don't get the hate either. I even liked his Christmas movie with Christina Applegate and Garolfini.
The Accountant was fun.

Hacksaw Ridge was terrific.

I kept waiting for something in The Arrival to be good. I'm still waiting. Did not agree with the hype at all.

was another one I saw semi-recently ... very good.
Affleck gets hate for his acting

not his directing. I'm one of those people who thinks he's a terrible actor and very good director. I haven't seen the accountant yet, but I like the concept.

Arrival was awesome, IMO. Completely unexpected take on the genre and I like how the story unraveled. Villaneuve is one of the top directors in the business right now.
Arrival requires some patience

maybe that's the wrong description, but it's not a rock em sock em sci-fi with eye candy and payoffs throughout. Kind of a slow burn but what a fascinating story and conclusion. Worth the investment.

I saw Jackie which I thought was really good, but depressing.

I also saw Patriots Day. Its really good.

Bleed for this - also pretty good, but for some reason I thought I'd like it more.

Edge of 17 was good too.

The Accountant was okay, but with about 30 min to go I was ready for them to wrap it up.

Tried to watch La La Land - I just wasn't in the mood when I sat down. Neither was my GF which says a lot b/c she had been really wanting to see it.

Split - this movie was good, but pretty creepy. Its PG`13 so it could have been much creepier.

Saw all but Split at home using Kodi. Kodi is great.

Best picture that I've seen so far. Also saw Hacksaw Ridge, Hell or High Water, both of those were also really good, and Manchester By the Sea which was good but very depressing.

I liked The Accountant too but did not see hilarity in any scenes. You must be referring to the weird way he lived.
The Accountant

was much better than that Live By Night Crap. Why does Ben make a good pic and than a turd so much?
I thought the Accountant

was pretty good. I enjoyed it. And it was good to see Shane again.

Just watched that tonight, very good show. I always love those shows where they keep it as true to the real story as possible.

I agree about Affleck. He's for no Range. He takes why he's ok in some roles and IMO painful in others
