If we decide to address other needs in the first two days of the draft, Conner will probably be there in the 4th or 5th round. He's probably a good fit for the Giants in that he compliments Perkins well. He's a big bruiser who can get that yard or two for the first down or a td. He can pass protect, which means he can be used early on as a rookie and he can catch the ball out of the backfield.
Look at the play at the 1:50 mark.

...but as running back in the NFL, I really don't want to spend a draft pick on James Conner.
He shows a lot of nice things on the field, including a certain one-step elusiveness and the ability to break tackles and move the pile on contact.
But me no like his overall running style. James Conner may have decent speed -- especially for a guy pushing into the size range of Brandon Jacobs -- but that speed does not occur quickly!!! He's a build up sorta speed guy.
But more to the point, he stands WAY too straight up when he takes a hand-off and he gets to the line of scrimmage in lumbering fashion.
Would be a nice Free Agent pick-up.
But I think he may be less than ideal for the role of picking up a few tough yards. He's a big strong RB who generates a lot of power once he gets in space. But it takes him a few steps before he's there. He can't just fire out. And he's also taller, and while he lowers his pads nicely in the open field, his natural running style is pretty upright. In summary, I think he's too vertical, and not quick enough to generate enough power over a few yards to be ideal for short yardage.
Just gotta say that I'm of the opinion that Dalvin Cook has superstar written all over him. He's awesome!
