I love the character and I thought Jackman was perfect for the role but I always felt that these movies never hit the mark. It would be great to see it done once or twice but it just makes some of the others movies seem like a waste when they coukd have been so much better.
do they mean a sprawling mess of a film anchored by a nice performance? If so, I say good for Jackman who is a pretty cool guy.
I suspect we see many more R rated Superhero films, as studios no doubt believe they’ve discovered a new route to 9 figure receipts. Probably say fuck it and milk Spiderman (again), Batman, Xmen, etc etc except this time with some extra fucks and a nip slip.
is that they were not real Wolverine movies, those movies tried too hard to attract non-fans. If you read the comics, he was a bad, violent man, who smoke and drank. If this movie can bring that part out, which from the reviews, this might be the case. Then it is sad that this is Jackman's last performance as Wolverine
I'd say that X2, First Class, The Wolverine, and Days of Future Past are all pretty good for the genre. The first movie was kinda mediocre and hasn't aged very well, but it gets a pass for basically being the first big budget comic book movie and setting the trend.
Last Stand, Origins, and Apocalypse are the real stinkers of the franchise. But that's still roughly a 50% hit rate, which is better than a lot of other franchises (Fantastic 4, the new DC stuff, Spider-Man...).
But they were just good at best. I just feel they missed the mark. If I see them on I really have no connection to watch them again. I feel like the X-Men series could be the gold standard of comic book movies because of the depth of the stories and characters with Wolverine being at the forefront.

From your experience with this series, do you think I'd be able to watch this on it's own as a standalone film? 96% is hard to ignore. [/quote
Yes. Its Wolverine in the future and has very little to do with the past X movies. Its almost like it is not in based in the same continuity
Batman Begins is the best of all the Batman movies.
All the X men movies are better than the Batman Trilogy.
Hugh Jackman is more talented than anyone in any of the comic book movies. He makes an unwatchable story in Japan watchable because of his presence. Christian Bale is dedicated but just not as good.
TDK gets high praise for the standout performance but it was a mess of a movie. That said the xmen movies also sucked but Logan looks very good. Glad to see Jackman actually acting in one of these movies for a change.
The dark knight was probably one of the best theater Â
experiences I've had. I haven't even watched it since, but as for a first time watch in the theater without any really stringent analysis it was fantastic. Much better than any other superhero movie for me except for the Michael Keaton batman.
I have a fundamental issue with the term overrated. It's rated by people, many of whom like it, so it deserves to be rated in relation to who did and did not like it. You may not agree with the majority, that makes you an outlier, it doesn't make a thing "overrated". It's rated exactly as how it should be, by a consensus of opinion, you just happen to disagree with that. I'm not trying to be dickish or contrarian, I fully support your right to opine on anything but I keep seeing "so and so is overrated" or "that is overrated"..it's not it's perfectly rated it's just not for you. For instance, I think disagree with most people about a couple of bands who are wildly famous and critically acclaimed. They deserve their rating, they earned it, I just happen to be in the minority.

That is true. Tons of potential with the characters.
On that note check out the new series on FX called "legion" it shows serious potential.
Without the need for 15 characters and two leads like Stewart and Jackman This should be very good.

I loved all of them except X3 and Apocalypse.

Yeah, if you were going to watch one before seeing Logan - I'd say watch The Wolverine
Pretty much sucked sans Heath Ledger.

X-Men > Batman
All the X men movies are better than the Batman Trilogy.
I'm going to go ahead and assume you never saw X-Men 3.
That was a steaming pile of crap.
The Dark Knight Rises?
C'mon man.
For whatever reason millennials responded to the "realistic" take, but it did nothing for me.
