for 5 years. The NO offer is downright awful, they could offer 5 future 1sts and I don't know how good that would be considering where the picks would fall. 20+ teams could put together a better deal. I don't expect Ranadive to make the right move in this mess.
but it makes sense they'd sit on it through the weekend. Hopefully Cousins, Butler and Melo are on the move this week. We need to shake up this lifeless NBA season.
According to this, it's a done deal - with the Pelicans
A person familiar with the situation said the Sacramento Kings have agreed to trade DeMarcus Cousins and Omri Casspi to the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for:
Tyreke Evans
2016 first-round draft pick Buddy Hield
Langston Galloway
first- and second-round draft picks this summer
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Sunday night because the trade is not official and has not been announced by either team.

That's what the beat guys are reporting on twitter. Sounds like this is the deal.
is more interested in adding a guy that should be able to easily fit with their team (George, Butler, Love) as opposed to a guy who they are going to have to change their whole offensive dynamic for (Cousins, Melo).

But when you factor in that cousins wouldn't have costed a single Nets pick, and any indication right now is that George/Butler will cost both nets picks, seems a bit off. Price will probably drop when CHI/IND realize how dire their situation is, but they will command at least one Nets pick + brown and Crowder.

How do you know BOS could have gotten him without giving a Nets pick?
Shoot, if you could get Cousins without the Nets pick, you do it in a heartbeat. Then flip 1-2 Nets picks for George/Butler. Probably resign Thomas, but not 100% -- ideally trade him although it's probably not possible (I hate his D). Boogie-Horford-Crowder-George/Butler-Smart with Thomas as the 6th man is more talent than the Cavs have, though they may not gel in time. And you might do that while retaining a Nets pick (I think one of the Nets pick plus other good assets should get Butler or George).
Hield is probably the difference, but if Boston threw out Smart and 2-3 non-Nets firsts plus some euro picks that would've been a better deal than what the Pelicans just received. There's also rosier in their back pocket. To me this is a clear indication by Ainge that he didn't want cousins in their locker room.
than the right for a rebuilding team to max out Smart. By a healthy margin.
Smart is a valuable player, but really only to a contender or someone convinced that he's got another level to his offensive game beyond just settling down his shot.

And who exactly is a rebuilding team going to even pay after losing cousins?
As of now they have a grand total of $9M committed to players in the 2018/2019 season. I bet they'll give Evans a healthy extension (or unhealthy depending on your perspective). Hield hasn't shown that he is anything but a one trick pony. What was that chart about the PERs of roolkies and their careers? Hield hasn't been Brandon Ingram-bad, but he hasn't been much better considering he's 4 years older and had "limited ceiling" written on him by pretty much every scout.
Vivek Ranadive was the only owner to attend Hield's pro day. I'm not sure that's the area you want to pioneer in.
Experience is more important than age in my observation, though I know a lot of teams are wary of upperclassmen.
Still, Hield's ceiling is like Courtney Lee. The pick they're getting is likely non-lottery, a type of pick many are expecting to get in return for KOQ.

His ceiling is to be a much better volume shooter/scorer than Lee. As a rookie he's averaging 7.5 3PA per 36 minutes and hitting 37%. Lee has never averaged more than 4.4 attempts/36.
Is also a far inferior defender rebounder and passer. MAYBE he'll be a better shooter but the rest of his skills are on existent.
I'll give him credit as a rebounder. And he plays with enough energy/athleticism where he should be at least an average defender at the NBA level. But at the end of the day you're still gonna be looking at someone who should be the 5th best guy on a good team. And I'm not so sure Malachi richardson isn't going to be something similar anyways.
Grayson Allen with the 1st round pick he got from NO anyways. Kings sure separated themselves from cousins and I guess that's in a win in itself but let's not pretend they got anything real in return for him.
yoing player, draft picks and expiring contracts...
rose willy kuz 2nds and a couple of firsts get it done phil

@SteveBHoop
According to text from league exec, Celtics have NOT been one of the teams trying to get DeMarcus Cousins today.
my gues pelicans were told they were out and leaked to media the talks
wasnt the melo deal done at midnight after all star game?
