Appearing on Sirius XM NFL Radio with Alex Marvez and Solomon Wilcots, Whitworth said that he’s talking to the Bengals and that he hopes it works out for him to stay in Cincinnati. He also said that the discussions have been about him remaining as the team’s left tackle. |
That's one less option for us....most of the other available LT's have injury histories, or could be too costly.....
So, if push comes to shove, and depending on where our cap space is allocated, we might be forced to play Flowers at LT again..... or we may have to juggle the line, and move Flowers to the opposite side, and maybe be forced to put Pugh in his place, and then concentrate on the Guard options....
We have seen so many posts about we should do this and we should do that.....but we have no idea, what Reese's priorities are, and he is not going to give any indication, because he would be dealing with a weak hand in free agency.....it's more or less wait and see, with free agency and the draft....
And if JPP forces us to use the tag, this hampers Reese's cap moves in free agency....

You know it's possible, just possible, that despite the majority of BBIers effectively writing him off as the OLT of the future, that his techniques working in year 2 with Solari improve a lot..His desire and physical ability is largely unquestioned, I believe..Not saying they will improve, but I'm willing to give him another year with Solari before jumping on the naysayer bandwagon
Not the point..Usually you read that a player wants to test the market and then go from there, whether they re-sign with the original team or not..ALL that I've read has him WANTING to stay with Cincy..
He can play left tackle, so can Ereck Flowers, thing is, we need a GOOD left tackle, Reiff is not worth LT money, he is a decent/solid RT at best.

any other team yet, nothing to read into yet.

100% right, hearing this over and over. Its news and convo worthy because it sounds like he is willing to take the hometown discount as long as its within the realm of reasonable.
I say NE as that team, because the chances of winning it there compared to anywhere else is exponentially higher just because they make it to the AFC championship all the time. Any other team it's a complete crap shoot from year to year.
I'm no expert on Reiff and everyone questions PFF grades, but he graded out higher for them in the years he played LT (between 70.5 and 77.5) than he did last year (67.5) at RT. Take it FWIW.

He's versatile, yes. But he's a much better RT than LT. He'll be an improvement over Flowers, but so are probably about 25 OT's. Try for the big HR move first, before Reiff: call Cleveland about Joe Thomas.

To me, it's telling that the Lions felt Taylor Decker (rookie) to was a better alternative at LT than Reiff.
I would be fine going with 2 FA for RG and RT.
