NFT: Red Sox rumored to be after Todd Frazier

mavric : 2/20/2017 3:38 pm
which makes Yanks signing Chris Carter for 3.5 million look like a bargain in comparison.

Apparently, the Sox aren't totally satisfied with Pablo Sandoval as their "big bat" in the middle of their lineup. Frazier's salary is $12.5 million.

Chris Carter: bats right / throws right / 30 yrs old / .222 BA / 41 HRs / 94 RBIs
Todd Frazier: bats right / throws right / 31 yrs old / .225 BA / 40 HRs / 98 RBIs

Frazier is worth more in that he's a decent fielder at 1st or 3rd and doesn't strike out as often as Carter. However, he is not 9 million dollars a year better than Carter....IMHO

----------------------------------------------

A lot is made over the Red Sox being the "team to beat" this coming season...and maybe they will be. However, I for one believe they are going to really miss Big Papi coming up big for them when needed. He carried that team on his back for the last few years and tended to be clutch when it mattered most.
.225 for Frazier is low...
Dunedin81 : 2/20/2017 4:07 pm : link
He's probably closer to a .250+ hitter going forward, and a solid defender at the hot corner, even steals the stray base. If Carter hits 250 it'll be on the scale, he is lead footed and is a 1B/DH. Maybe not a 9 mil difference, but even this version of Frazier is much more valuable.
oh those lovable underdog Red Sox!

They are "prospects" for a reason. The vast percentages are that even "top" prospects won't pan out. Everyone remembers the few who become stars. No one remembers those that are derailed by injuries, inability to adjust their games once the opposition has scouting reports, personal demons, endure position changes or never rise above AAAA level.
All in

I guess, short term anyway.
And they only have 3 left worth anything: forget names but a 3rd baseman, OF, and pitcher.
Dumb rowski better be good at drafting to replenish or its back to last plac for a few years.

Prospects are nice but parades are even better! :-)
Your post is misleading
redwhiteandbigblue : 2/20/2017 6:01 pm : link
Nothing and I mean nothing is out there that the Sox are dissatisfied with Sandoval. Are they concerned? Of course. The articles and rumors out there refer to Frazier as an option IF Sandoval does not produce during the first half of the season. This would be a trade deadline move that would cost the Sox half his salary. That is alot different than what your post insinuates.

We have one of the best young cores in the big leagues. I think we will be ok.
Big bat in the middle??
redwhiteandbigblue : 2/20/2017 6:12 pm : link
Um, maybe Mookie Betts and Hanley Ramirez? Oh wait, they only hit 31 and 30 homers.

wild ass speculation at this time.
I hope they fucking lose every game

I don't see the comparison
Jay on the Island : 2/20/2017 6:39 pm : link
Frazier is solid in the field and has power. Carter is an all or nothing hitter who is terrible defensively.

It was a story run by Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe

IF Sandoval does not produce. This will be a trade deadline deal if it happens at all. Read the full Cafardo article.

Frazier at 3rd.

Makes Boston untouchable for 4 or 5 years.

BlueJays are fading, Baltimore will hit but no pitching to speak of, Tampa looks decent but never contends, Yankees, ha, non factor for another 10-15 years.

Red Sox or Cleveland are the teams to beat in the AL.

Cubs and Mets in the NL.

Should be a great season.

Yanks will be a title contender as soon as next season (2018) with their young lineup and prospects
By 2019 the Yanks could have this lineup
dpinzow : 2/21/2017 7:02 am : link
Jorge Mateo (CF)
Gleyber Torres (SS)
Gary Sanchez (C)
Manny Machado (3B)
Greg Bird (1B)
Clint Frazier (LF/RF)
Tyler Austin (DH)
Starlin Castro (2B)
Jacoby Ellsbury (LF/RF)

I think Didi is more likely to still be in pinstripes than Castro. Didi has proved himself on the big stage and is a very slick fielder and he's done well with the bat. Castro isn't as slick with the glove and tends to chase balls a foot out of the strike zone killing rallies.
NYY-Boston could be another huge rivalry...
Dunedin81 : 2/21/2017 10:56 am : link
as early as next year. But before we anoint Boston the juggernaut because of an impressive offense, they still have to pitch. And right now, the only pitcher they have who actually scares me is Chris Sale. Price is a good pitcher whose velocity has been consistently declining for several years. Porcello is a decent pitcher who is unlikely to sniff his 2016 results again. And Rodriguez needs to stay healthy before he's penciled in for much of anything.
