Official Yay or Nay Sign JPP thread. 5 years $75 Million

DennyInDenville : 2/21/2017 11:15 pm
Yay or nay?

I'm gonna have to say Yay and let Hankins walk

His run defense is outstanding and elis window is closing

I would front load a lot of the money so he can be cut in 3 years if he's disappointing

5 years $75 million, $40 million guaranteed.

Yay or Nay BBI?

Yay for me.

Sign an older vet DT to replace Hankins, or ball out and get Campbell as the 3 tech either way..

Then draft TE early, Sign a vet WR2, sign a vet OL, draft An OL

Plus sign AP and draft RB late.

Rest of the picks for DL and DB depth.
If the Guarenteed money for JPP goes

10 mil year one, 15 mil year two and three, no dead cap year 4 and 5. Then yay
Definitely.
adamg : 2/21/2017 11:19 pm : link
That would be a great deal.
that's roughly what he's going to get
gidiefor : Mod : 2/21/2017 11:36 pm : link
sign him
I say yay
Eman11 : 2/22/2017 12:00 am : link
To that JPP deal and your other FA/draft comments as well.

If they pulled all of that off it'd be a GREAT offseason IMO, and the perfect follow up to last year's signings and picks. The two year rebuild would be pretty much nailed.
He's an absolute steal at those numbers.
Keith : 2/22/2017 12:05 am : link
A top 4-3 DE in his prime. Absolutely.

I do think he will get more guaranteed though.

A consolidation thread isn't fair to the people that have put the time into their posts.

I must say this thread is unrealistic.

The key is where Eddie Lacy goes. With LaGarrette Blount a potential cap casualty, if Lacy ends up on the Patriots ( which is the inside rumor) there's no way Minny let's AP walk,

I'd much rather have Latavius Murray, who is more likely to be available and signabke than an aging, PR problem AP.

That said, I mentioned earlier that JPP is worth keeping but not at the expense of filling 2 needs for the money. We need a finisher on the edge. Pass rush is a top priority but we can do better than JPP for the money he'll command.

Keith : 2/22/2017 12:07 am : link
Lacy still sucks.
Also,
Keith : 2/22/2017 12:07 am : link
we can do better, such as?
He's only 26 Keith
Cruzin : 2/22/2017 12:09 am : link

and he won't suck with Bellichick.

I guess my vote is nay

We can do better than JPP with the money.
No brainer.
arcarsenal : 2/22/2017 12:10 am : link
I would think he gets a little more than that though.

What is that?

Intelligent? Supposed to be funny? I must be missing the point? Is there one?

Don't read too it too much Nancy, no deep meaning, it's just what your ridiculous whining reminded me of, that's all.
'Key' and 'Lacy' are two words....
MOOPS : 2/22/2017 1:13 am : link
that should never be used in the same sentence.
I'd prefer 4/$60M
Torrag : 2/22/2017 1:36 am : link
...but Yay!
Yes
mrvax : 2/22/2017 3:07 am : link

The Giants are rolling the dice a bit since JPP had back surgery
SB 42 and 46 and ? : 2/22/2017 3:29 am : link
and now has the sports hernia. But neither of these is like ripping up a knee. He was in great shape and took almost every snap.

There's a risk with any player getting injured. We're so used to Eli never missing a game that many never think of the possibility that with one play in season game 1 Eli could be put out of action for the season.

In a league of 32 teams, with only one winning the championship, you have to take some risks, and this isn't a particularly great risk.
I'll say this,
prdave73 : 2/22/2017 5:53 am : link
if it doesn't hurt this team from getting Riley Reiff or Whitworth and improving this Oline, then im good with him coming back.
Yes.

I
AcidTest : 2/22/2017 7:51 am : link
would say probably nay, but as others have said, he'd probably want a lot more.
Absolutely - any deal he signs is going to be essentially a
jlukes : 2/22/2017 7:58 am : link
3 year deal anyway
Not unless they front-load it in their favor
JonC : 2/22/2017 8:20 am : link
.
no. or at least not unless the deal is frontloaded
Victor in CT : 2/22/2017 8:36 am : link
to give favorable future cap treatment. Back surgery+sports hernia+1 1/2 hands = HUGE RISK.

The other thing is, I don't think they are a guaranteed SB contender this year. They still have major ??? on the OL, no TE, no FB, no true # 2 receiver and are thin at RB. And a tougher sked this year too. It's entirely possible they could actually be a better team by season's end but have a worse record.

I want no part of Reiff. Over the last 2 seasons, he's surrendered the 5th most QB pressures in football with 95. That's a lot. But it's not the 128 surrendered by our very own Flowers.
Yeah, probably
jeff57 : 2/22/2017 8:39 am : link
.
It's 'yea,'
Mr. Bungle : 2/22/2017 8:43 am : link
not 'yay'.
Here is what I would do - 5/$80
jlukes : 2/22/2017 8:52 am : link
$50 Million Guaranteed

$20 Million Signing bonus

$8 million 1st year salary guaranteed ($13M cap hit)
$9 million 2nd year salary guaranteed ($14M cap hit)
$11 million 3rd year salary guaranteed ($17M cap hit)

$14 million 4th year salary, becomes fully guaranteed if on team on March 1st of that year ($19M Cap hit)
$16 million 5th year salary, becomes fully guaranteed if on team on March 1st of that year ($21M cap hit)

Team would save $4 million by cutting him after year 3
Team would save $11 million by cutting him after year 4
Should say 22 million signing bonus
jlukes : 2/22/2017 8:55 am : link
.
Definitely yes
PatersonPlank : 2/22/2017 12:02 pm : link
lets do it, and Hankins too
