Thank you for posting. What I find most interesting about the article is that one name was conspicuously absent: Daniel Snyder. McCloughan has been neutered because Snyder has once again fallen in love with another front office muse in Bruce Allen.
WaPo ran a story about ten days ago that dealt specifically with McCloughan's gag order. I felt this was directly related to Kirk Cousins and an indication that Bruce Allen has taken over the contract negotiation.
My read is McCloughan won a battle last year to franchise Cousins rather than pay him a $20 million annual contract. The was not a cage match by any means as Snyder was still experiencing love pangs for his concubine Griffin, and he never backed up Cousins any way.
Cousins ruined everything by compiling stats in 2016 and Danny now views him through a new lens. Snyder is heated that Cousins's salary number has gone up and will separate Danny from $20-$30 million over the life of the contract. In short, McCloughan bungled this one and he's off the job.
Add the fact that McCloughan could be hitting the bottle (he did not look well on the sidelines at all late in the season - bloated and red - still laughing at Mrs. McCloughan's accusation that the cosmopolitan Dianna Russini would want a piece of that fishing cabin trash), and McCloughan could have very well been demoted to dissecting film.
This is all wonderful news as it clearly shows that Snyder's grubby little hands are all over this decision. Their offseason has been a disaster thus far. It could get worse.
