we have had this discussion before but it keeps me wondering.
Can a good High School boys team defeat the Uconn women?
On one hand is athleticism on the other maturity, teamwork and coaching.
I keep thinking the boys would win. would like to hear the discussion
I think that's true at least.
They should set up a game for charity. I'd actually tune in.
They are bigger, faster, and stronger, at every position.
They would wipe the floor with them.
I don't think you guys have any idea of the size and athletic ability of some of these women. When you add the scheme to it, the HS would need to be top drawer to beat them.
We were: 6'5, 6'2, 6'2, 6'3, and 6'0. I bet we could have given some of the best college girls team a run for their money.

Routinely practice against teams made up of college guys who are former HS and college players. It wouldn't be the blowout people think.
Exactly. What dep described as his team is the type of team most women's teams practice against.
ehhh.... those practice players may be high school players.... but my players were very talented. Playing Division II basketball at a high level is better than being a practice player for a girls team.
I'm saying a good HS team maybe with no division 1 players. just good boys players
And yeah, an NBA factory like Oak Hill or Brewster Academy would flat out embarrass them.
Sure. But how well do they do. There isn't a woman anywhere that can stay with a D1 men's player. D3, maybe.
Would a men's high school track team
beat a college women's track team.
Would a men's high school tennis team
beat a college women's tennis team.
You could play this game across the board and women would never win in any sport.
These high school teams also have chemistry and are used to playing together.
I just don't see how UConn would stop players in the paint who are 6'8 and taller, let alone guards and wings who can shoot over them.
That said, against a good high school team that lacks D1 talent whose biggest player is 6'5? I think the UCOnn women's could give them a game and maybe beat them.

These are irrelevant comparisons because those are all individual performances and for the most part do not rely on any teamwork, chemistry, or scheme.

Actually I saw a news vid on the guys that UConn plays against. They were not scrubs, not even close, and they were on record as saying it was not an easy task. I am not saying one way or the other because I really don't know... lol... but I would bet good money that no HS team would blow them out and they probably win more than lose.
Maybe, but I personally think not. It'd be a fun game to watch though.

would blow out UConn girls. The line would be 30-40 points.

Read my previous post near the top. theres a PA school with the 3rd, 40th ranked players in this year class. Next year has the 2nd ranked player. A top 10 sophomore, and 2 other players going division 1.
Their smallest player is 6'4 out of their top 6. They would beat some small D-I boys teams, yet alone a girls team.

You may be right with UConn, but not WNBA. Liberty practices against elite and paid practice squads, containing many guys looking to make pro (and some who have made it pro especially overseas). I understand what you are saying but I personally feel you are not giving the girls enough cred... lol. Again, just my opinion though. And to be fair, I was a wrestler and (still am) a powerlifter, and although I can move around on a basketball court OK I can't dribble or shoot to save my life.... so take my opinion at that face value... lol. I do watch a lot of Women's basketball though because my girls played when they were younger and we followed Newtown HS through their State title. I enjoy watching the Women more than the men, such a different game. More team oriented in my view.
NO HS team would blow them out? Let's get more concrete here and look only at Connecticut. Looking at 24/7's state recruiting rankings, Putnam Science Academy has a top ten player in Kentucky commit Hamidou Diallo. He's a 6'5" wing. They also have a Xavier commit, 6'10 285 Kentrevious Jones and a Seton Hall commit, 6'9" 250 Darnell Brodie, and a kid being recruited by Iowa State, 6'8" 215 Alexis Yetna. You tell me how a UConn women's team with two players over 6'3" even slows that team down.
Top women's players are marvelously skilled, but their inherent physical limitations when compared to top boys HS players are massive.

I used the same example... the top team from PA has guys going too...
- Arizona
- Kentucky
- Possbily Duke
- Possibly UNC
- Rutgers
- Stony Brook.

Holy crap... is that a public school? They must have some serious recruiting going on.

no, its not. Its an academy that gets some of the best players all along the east coast.
Theres a charter school in philly thats ranked 7th in the nation though. And a catholic school in Philly that has guys going to Kentucky and Nova next year.
While these kinds of discussions are fun, it's frustrating when people use it as a guise to diminish the accomplishment of the UConn women's team. It's incredibly impressive and maybe something that we won't see again.
Big difference between the boys and the girls on the hardwood.
Pace, agility, strength -
I linked NY sports writers rankings - AA, A, B, C and D.
120 teams - most on this list would win, certainly AA, A and B IMO.
NYS top 25 - ( New Window )
Probably the ball... women's basketball uses a smaller ball (about an inch smaller)

Interesting list, thanks for posting it. Certainly AA. Can't really speak to A, but you're probably right. Not so sure about B - don't think it's "certain" that the Rhinebeck HS boys team would beat the UConn women's team.
