3 top 10 wins and are above .500 in the ACC - that should be nearly automatic
Virginia was never a top 10 caliber team this year even though they were ranked up there at one point. They were up there on reputation this year after having 2 outstanding years in a row. FSU and Duke are Syracuse's 2 signature wins
-congrats to Cuse fans btw- but since it's ACC, does anyone know why Donovan Mitchell isn't considered a top prospect other than the fact he plays at Louisville. Is it his height?

It isn't like Syracuse beat Virginia in November - they beat them a couple weeks ago. And they were 6th. They beat FSU when they were 6th. They took #4 Louisville to OT and they beat #10 Duke. Not sure any bubble teams have similar resumes.
Banking home a 3-pointer at the buzzer? Are you serious?
We'll take it!
Louisville on the road is terribly tough. Georgia Tech at
The Dome should be a "W" and hopefully leads to an NCAA bid.
RE: This is why Syracuse still needs help to get in
Love seeing fans get to react to a shot like that.
I think Cuse has a shot to make it either way but they should either beat Tech at home or win an ACC tourney game to not sweat it out on selection Sunday.
I still think they need to win a game in the ACC Tourney to fully solidify their position, because a loss in the first game there would certainly not be a good look to one of the lesser teams in the ACC.
Vitale got swept away in a tide of hyperbole . Nothing new there. If they lose their last 2 regular season games, then their first in the ACC Tournament, they will be at 17-15. The three wins at home against ranked teams balanced by 4 hideous losses. It's weak on the bubble this season. That helps them but I don't think they are close to being a lock.
As for the game I was surprised how weak Duke's defense is on top. Allowing dribble drives starting from the key. Never stopping ball or having help? K's Old School . They don't rough hedge-acknowledged. And their game plan on defense was to stay in White's jock and make Lydon play in a phone booth . But I was still surprised how easily Gillon broke them down. Especially after watching GT stone him.
What a night. Amazing when Gillon hit the shot how loud it was. It was more exciting for me than when we beat the Cowboys on Sunday night.
I think we are in now. It's been an incredible season and never thought we'd be sitting here after that St. John's debacle. How about Coach K not calling it a rivalry? What an ass.
is that while no team with three top-ten wins has ever not made it in, no team with three top-ten wins has probably ever had the number of gross losses that SU has this season.
I'd want to be in the bracket with Gonzaga at No.1.
Cuse barely beat the worst Gonzaga team of the past 20 years in last year's tourney.
Hahahahahahaha! So, just last year, they were the worst team they've had in 20 years, but now less than 1 year later they are the undefeated number 1 team in the country? Wow, that's some turn around...

They may have had worse teams over the last 20 or so years than last year, but you could certainly make an argument last year was the worst.
5 of their top 6 players this year did not play on the team last year. Karnowski was out with injury, and 4 others either were transfers or are freshman this year.
Well I'm laughing at the absurdity of the point. They 'barely beat' another team in the tournament. News at 11 cause that never happens in March madness
Wonder if Michigan state would be embarrassed if they barely beat middle Tennessee last year?
I don't remember ANYBODY calling them the worst Gonzaga team in 20 years until after they lost. It's just ridiculous logic to throw dirt on a tournament win when Gonzaga is always in the tournament and a force.
I'm sure all the experts will be telling us all how awful this Gonzaga team was too if they lose in the tourney. Worst team in 25 years. Overrated for sure, right?
comment by a gonzaga "fan" to even bring up a game where your squad got legit beat fuck outta the Tournament - oddly almost a full year later and the bitterness is mud-thick.
Play in a real conference and then you put can pull your tits out.

Ummm... the Zags lost by 3 points and had the lead from the 9 minute mark until there was 20 seconds left to go. So why would any Cuse fan hope to see a infinitely better version than last season's team?
They don't play in a "real conference", yet they have as many top 15 RPI wins as anyone in the top 15. And they're number 1 in Pomeroy. They're number 1 in Sagarin. They just moved to 29-0 with 26 double digit wins. And in the 3 games they didn't win by double digits, they had second half leads of 9, 16, and 18 points. And they became the first team since undefeated UNLV squad to win 20 straight games by double digits.
Yes, they must finally handle their business in the tournament. But let's not act like these guys are tin cans waiting to be pushed over by some middle of the road power 5 team.

Normally, they don't have to worry about the automatic bid. Last season, they wouldn't have made it without the automatic bid (and deservedly so). They lost nearly every game they played against a decent opponent, including non-tourney teams. And yet with 3 minutes left in the Sweet 16 game, the Zags had a 5 point lead over Cuse.
Maybe Cuse is better than they were last season. I know that Gonzaga is a LOT better than they were last season. That doesn't mean shit when the game/tourney starts, but to be hoping to be in their bracket this year is just being unaware of how good they've been this season.
to be rehashed to show that the ceiling for most top seeded mid-majors in recent times is the Elite 8?
You are more likely to find a lower seeded mid-major make a run.
Do we have to point to Memphis, St Joe's or even the Zags in 2013?
Take away UNLV's success in the 90's and the only recent top seed mid-major to reach the Final Four was UMass back in 1996 (and that's not really recent).
If you don't think Syracuse fans would rather play Gonzaga than say UNC, Kansas or Kentucky, I don't know what to tell you.
Play in a real conference where you have to bring your best every single game regardless of opponent - especially on the road. Not only will your record take a beating but your players will take a beating as well fighting every night against top competition.
When you're playing no-name teams every night - against significantly lower competition - both physically and in terms of skill - I'm not impressed by an undefeated record. When you're playing teams like Pacific, San Francisco, Portland, Pepperdine and Loyola Marymount - again, not all that impressed.
As for these big wins - you beat Florida by five and Iowa State by two in November and Arizona on December 3rd.
Since then, you couldn't have a more cupcake schedule.
Meanwhile, these middle-of-the road Power 5 teams that you're cheekily referring to are playing and beating Top 10 teams in conference play.
And you guys are beating the San Diego Tereros by 50 points.
But they better hope they don't get a team with active bigs or they are in big trouble. A 4-5 seed Purdue, Miami, Wisconsin are live underdogs.
Wisconsin literally cannot beat anyone right now. I just saw Purdue need overtime to beat Penn State. Let's not get crazy.
The Zags lost one game, mostly because they missed an inordinate amount of free throws (and they made 1 of their last 13 three point attempts). While I expect the B in Alb's of the world to act like this is 10 losses, it's hardly the end of the world. They lost to BYU at home on senior day 2 years ago when ranked #3. They played in the Elite Eight a few weeks later.
Bad losses: UConn, Georgetown. Normally these aren't bad losses but UConn is mediocre and G'Town is 2nd to last in the Big East...
Putrid losses: St. John's, Boston College. STJ is 12-16; BC is 9-19
Virginia was never a top 10 caliber team this year even though they were ranked up there at one point. They were up there on reputation this year after having 2 outstanding years in a row. FSU and Duke are Syracuse's 2 signature wins
Too bad that doesn't work for the big 10.

yer buggin. they beat three top 10 teams. are like 6-7 vs the Top 50. No other bubble team is close to that record.
Keep on hatin...we love it. Cuse is in the house, oh my god, oh my god.
This Cuse team would be one of those tourney wildcards that could beat or lose to just about anyone.
No matter what happens going forward, tho, hats off to the
team/coaches for the in-season turnaround. They were dead.
Crazy season.
Absolutely, they are.

We could easily win four games in such a bracket or go out in the first game. Pretty exciting!
Cuse barely beat the worst Gonzaga team of the past 20 years in last year's tourney.
Wonder if there will be rematch in the tourney?
The crowd was crazy. 33,233........Gillen played really well against big time pressure.
I'm usually the first gonzaga hater but they beat Florida and Arizona on the road. Also beat Iowa state. I wouldn't want to face them this year.
As much as I hate Duke and Allen, I think that was a good no call. There was contact but it was initiated by Gillon

"#1" team goes down at home to powerhouse BYU.
Holy shit that conference is tough! Just a complete gauntlet.
And the Gonzaga fans chant "NIT" to BYU as they lose. Pathetic.

This is one of their better teams but I'll be surprised if they make the elite 8.
