NFT: Mystery Theater 3000 Revival Release Date

pganut : 2/23/2017 8:25 am
Alright, all you Big McLargeHuges, Fridge LargeMeats, Slab BulkHeads and Thick McRunFasts...mark April 14 on your calendars as Netflix relaunches the Satellite of Love with 14 new episodes.

Quote:
(Joel) Hodgson is back on board overseeing all facts of the revival, with comedian Jonah Ray and actress Felicia Day also cast in the series. Community's Dan Harmon and Joel McHale have joined as writers for the revival alongside former Daily Show head writer Elliott Kalan. The show's original cast – including Mary Jo Pehl (Pearl Forrester), Bill Corbett (Crow T. Robot) and Kevin Murphy – will also reprise their roles.
Interestingly, another article on AV Club has the following listed as cast, so whether Corbett & Murphy reprise Crow/Servo or are in fact Brain Guy and Bobo, great to see they're still involved.
Quote:
Casting-wise, Bill Corbett will also be returning to the show to reprise his character of Brain Guy in a guest-starring role. Likewise, Corbett’s RiffTrax compatriot Kevin Murphy will appear as Professor Bobo, and, completing the late-season Mads trio, Mary Jo Pehl is set to guest star as Pearl Forrester. Hampton Yount and Baron Vaughn will take over in Corbett and Murphy’s roles as Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo, and Felicia Day will co-star as a new branch of the Forrester family tree, Kinga Forrester. Jonah Ray will take over as Jonah, the newest jumpsuit-clad schmuck to be held prisoner and forced to watch bad movies aboard the Satellite of Love.

MST3K to Netflix - April 14 - ( New Window )
I used to love that show

I wonder what movies they will ridicule this time. I can think of many in the last couple of years that were simply awful and made me want the last 2 hours of my life back after watching.
If you like the old episodes

A ton are streamable on shoutfactorytv.com. They licensed the series (hence why they all vanished from Netflix a while back) and I find myself watching about an episode per week. Much better quality than what you find on YouTube, and a greater selection, FWIW.
I'm excited

But no Mike or Trace makes me a bit sad, as they were the two who made me laugh the most. I enjoyed Joel's more esoteric humor, but his riffs usually brought about more amused chuckles than laughs.
Greg, I'm with you

While some would say sacrilege, I favor the Mike years over the Joel years (not that I didn't like Joel, just like Mike better).
The whole Mike-Joel arguments were all silly anyway

I don't think anyone believes that either one of them ISN'T funny. People just have their personal preferences. Some people prefer more abstract humor full of obscure literary and cultural references, and that's fine. For me, Mike's stuff may have been more simple but it just made me laugh more.

In any case, the new cast has some big shoes to fill. Hope they're up to it.
if anyone gets Comet TV on their cable or satellite system...

they air two back to back episodes of MST3K every Sunday night...however, it looks like they only have 8 or 10 episodes in their library, meaning after a month or so they run the same episodes again...

one they do have is Manos, Hands of Fate, possibly the worst movie ever made...
yeah, I noticed that
Greg from LI : 2/23/2017 9:54 am : link
They have Manos, I Accuse My Parents, Eegah, Beginning of the End, Red Zone Cuba, and a few others and play them over and over.
also...

80 glorious episodes, all great quality. Including the all-time greats like Manos, Final Justice, Mitchell, Jack Frost, Killer Shrews, Final Sacrifice and tons more.
ShoutFactoryTV - 80 episodes - ( New Window )
Highly underrated episode - Code Name: Diamond Head

'70s Hawaii in all its glory, plus a young Ian McShane as the bad guy. It's kind of fun how all of their Ian McShane jokes refer to him as Lovejoy since Deadwood was still a decade away.
My faves are
Gap92 : 2/23/2017 11:54 am : link
Riding with Death, Track of the Moon Beast, and The Final Sacrifice. I could watch those on a loop all day.

I'm the "Mike"camp, but my favorite person on the show overall was the 2nd Crow, Bill Corbett.
It's a shame that Mike is completely absent
Gap92 : 2/23/2017 11:59 am : link
For such a fun/goofy show, there seems to be a lot of bad blood (Joel vs Mike, Joel vs Jim Mallon).
There isn't any bad blood between Mike and Joel
Greg from LI : 2/23/2017 12:07 pm : link
They just did the live MST reunion show together last summer. Mike chose to continue on with RiffTrax rather than writing for the new MST. I don't think Mike and Joel are best friends or anything, but I think the idea of a feud between them is inaccurate.

Jim Mallon, on the other hand, is a whole different story.
Also, I think the weirdest thing will be hearing a different voice
Greg from LI : 2/23/2017 12:09 pm : link
for Tom Servo. There were two different hosts and two different Crows, but Kevin Murphy voiced Servo for all but the first season (which not many people have ever seen anyway).
I'm in the process of watching episode 601 The Starfighters

..and TV's Frank was totally correct in his commentary in the official MST3K episode guide...nothing happens in this movie. It's all stock footage of planes taking off and landing and refueling and taking off again and landing and refueling all to completly innappropriate music.
It's a chore to get through the entire thing so far lol

Also rewatched Mitchell last weekend. Good ol Joe Don Baker, that fat slob...

Starfighters is great, because it is - as you correctly said - really about nothing. But we did get the great "poopy suit" song from that one.
Fill your pants over France, in your poopysuit... - ( New Window )
still cracks me up that B-1 Bob was the "star" of that movie
