I did not want to start the actual deadline thread (that is for the veterans here). Anyway - a few smaller deals have occurred and I am sure there is some anxiety from all our hockey fans leading up to Wednesday
Michael Stone was traded to Calgary for picks
Ron Hainsey was traded to Pittsburgh (former Canadien/Ranger prospect Danny Kristo was involved)

and in a smaller deal (swap of former Ranger defensemen's sons). Keegan Lowe was traded for Philip Samuelsson.
pjcas - a lot of Canadiens alumni/news here.

Apologies if this falls through. I would like to think Commodore has some value over the Twitter-fakes.
Here's a guy who should be traded because they have. Way too many contracts. And have one of the worst contracts in hockey and that's the lightning who have a righty D who has an ok contract
Anton Stralman and his 2 goals and a 2.3 percent shooting percentage. I'd take him if shatt is not attainable but he's clearly likely coming To NY so send him over now when he can help us win. He has turned down contract. Offers from other teams who set up deals.
If the Rangers can get Shattenkirk for a first, I think you do it. I suspect it'll cost more, though.
I'd be thrilled if Gorton pulls it off cheaply.
If trading and extending now somehow gets Shat to accept a bit cheaper deal than he would on 7/1, that might change my mind. But I have no realistic expectation that it would.

True, but I don't see why St. Louis would pay half when they're in the middle of a playoff race. I mean they would REALLY need to be bowled over not only to trade Shattenkirk but to eat salary also. It's not like the Yandle situation where Arizona weren't making the playoffs AND could eat his contract.
My Source told me that there has been some good dialogue regarding Eberle with the Islanders. #Insider
Yeah, WTF with it seemingly only happening to hockey players?

My theory is that it's because Canada doesn't have a nationwide or even consistent vaccine program for MMR (measles, mumps, and rubella) like the US does, and add in the other foreigners from Russia, Czech Republic, etc. that more likely than not don't have standard vaccination programs either and it explains why NHL teams are so susceptible to outbreaks - more than other teams. It's like college campuses and meningitis.
But the NHL is unique, 50% Canadian and 50% from "other" countries.

So... how would this Eberle fella fit in?
I think there were rumors the Isles were interested in him before
Hopefully Glen is tied up in the back with no access to a phone and Gorts is in full control.

I wouldn't worry too much about a reactionary move. Remember the 2011 and 2012 deadlines, we resisted trading assets for Brad Richards and Kevin Nash. I do think that Shattenkirk might sign an extension with the Caps. He absolutely would fill a need but I am one who believes that we shouldn't have given up a lot of assets. If anything, maybe in the off season we can see if a trade for Trouba or someone a bit cap friendly.
As a fan, it's always exciting to see a new player wear your team's uniform. Look the Caps got better, no doubt. Let's see what the next day and half brings.
Shattenkirk trade has other details but main parts I believe: 1st RD pick in 2017, 2nd RD pick in 2018 and Zach Sanford going to St. Louis
I think it's a good move for WAS and a good non-move for NYR if that's possible and you understand my reasons.

That's a pretty shitty return
Kevin Shattenkirk will finish his season in Washington. Expect the Rangers to make a push for him on July 1st. #tvasports

Think it's a good move for WAS. They're my pick to win it this year.
It really doesn't. Not to me at least
This makes the Caps better, no doubt, but that's just not a price the Rangers should pay and they can improve the team enough with smaller moves to beat the Caps in 7 anyway..
I know I wouldn't be worried about it, plus the deadline hasn't past yet.
Fish honestly it does not. You may recall how sick I was over the Staal deal. Maybe other Rangers fans disagree. The Rangers cannot always trade their assets at the deadline. There is no entitlement or birthright on my part. This was the price of the St. Louis, Yandle, and Staal deals.
Think about it, who had the Rangers with this many wins back in the summer? I think it's smart. We dont have a lot in the pipeline so I am breathing a sigh of relief. Others may disagree.
I wouldn't mind them selling a player or two (Klein, Holden, Grabner) because prices have been pretty high

I agree. If you can get a first for Grabner or a second for Holden I'd do that.
See if there are some marginal improvements to make, get in the Atlantic bracket, wait for the Caps to crap out in the 2nd round to Pittsburgh.
Exactly. They always collapse in the playoffs, and this year will be no different.
