The Manning trade was killed by everyone. Everyone said they gave up too much even though it passed muster by every standard available. Now, it's the Giants' best deal.

Absolutely. Even if Eli didn't lead us to two SB championships, the stability he has provided makes that trade worth it.
and everyone that echoed that clip drove me nuts. And it had little to do with how good Eli was or would be. What pisses me off is that based on history the Giants gave up fair market value to move from 4 and take the #1 QB picked. Everyone just killed the move for all the wrong reasons. If the Giants were going to get their man they were going to have to make the trade. When you have the first overall pick you always hold all the cards and will always get value back for the pick if you trade it even if the consensus #1 pick publicly shits all over the team picking first. Doesn't matter. That team is gonna get value back. It's how the NFL has worked for decades and how it will always work. It's rigged in some ways...doesn't matter. But fans refused to see things that way. It was just non stop nonsense talk that Eli isn't Peyton and the Giants panicked when they didn't have to. No one paid attention to how the NFL works. No one looked back to see that whenever the team picking first has a disgruntled #1 overall player on their hands that team always wins in the end.
NEver mind that this theory that Eli was only getting hyped because his brother was Peyton...let's ignore that many great players had lesser talented siblings in the NFL that were NOT overvalued. As if GMs could be that foolish.
Best trade might be considered as best value you got for what you gave up. Two come to mind. One is still an open question, trading up for Landon Collins. The other is a 3rd rd. pick for Rob Carpenter.
Trading for Eli Might Have Been The Best Giants' Trade Ever
But judging by the article it appears that they just asked a beat writer for each team to give their opinion. It's not like it's some sort of consensus.

He was. They trade the 5th we gave them for him.
Yes. That transformed the Giants running game.
I believe the exact quote was, "The Chargers robbed them blind."
So funny.
