Sacre bleu...as our resident nightowl MiLB pointed out, however fleeting, there's a new WC2 placeholder from Brooklyn. A positive development, but there's still a loooong way to go. Don't get comfortable. Things don't get any easier heading to the Bell Centre tonight.
Thomas Greiss gets the start. Zeeker will miss the next 4 weeks with an upper body injury (broken hand) and has been IRed; Cal hasn't been given clearance to return, and Prince hasn't gotten the green light just yet although he's expected back for Saturday's game. What does that mean? Veteran Sound Tiger Bracken Kearns has been emergency recalled - largely because of his solid 2-way game - and will be on a line with Kulie and Gionta tonight. Weight expects Kulie to be moved around a bit tonight. Regarding Kearns, the Sound Tigers leading scorer with 40 points (18G, 22A) in 51 games:
"He's had a great year. The great thing about Bracken is that he's a pro. He's been around. He's had some stints in the NHL and played well," Interim Coach Doug Weight said. "A smart hockey player, a heady hockey player and can play with some edge."
"I know the teams playing well up here and hopefully I can come up here and fill a role," Kearns said. "I need to be responsible out there, play on an edge and pretty much anything I can do to help the team win." |
Also excited to get a chance to play in front of his friends and family in Quebec tonight is your 2C tonight, Anthony Beauvillier:
"It will be special. Every game I came to Bell Centre I told my dad I hope I'm going to play here one time. Now it's happening tonight." |
A hometown hatty for the rookie tonight, then, please.
Let's Go Islanders
2 of 9 road games down. 4 out of 4 points. Keep this train rolling, boys!
i'm glad it was a weird angle shot.. if he came in through center with the puck and an empty net.... umm...
Ugly game for Montreal.
Islanders controlled the play all game, Canadiens had very few threats. They needed something to be vocal about.
Going to be a nervous week. Bergevin can't panic and trade Sergachev, Juulsen, Galchenyuk, McCarron, or Beaulieu.
Now the Leafs are another matter.
What do you think the package they'd want for Gachelnyuk look like?
TB lost. Now we need BOS to lose in LA.
Now the Leafs are another matter.
get out of here with this horeseshit. MTL is not a cup contender, but they have 5 good lines, and 3 good D.
they're a fringy playoff team like half the league.
Where were your posts when they started off 13 - 0 - 1?
They've the most impact of man games to injury than anyone, they need some time to gel now that they're healthy.
And they do need another top 6 forward or need to swap Plekanec and Danault - Danault is not a 1st line center.
But they're definitely reeling right now.

Great win. Stupid question. What if we finished with a better record than the Atlantic winner?
Nothing. Atlantic leader still wins the division. But a Metro team can bump out non division winners.
We actually had a better record than Tampa who we faced in the 2nd round last year, but because we were a Wild Card and they were a Top 3 in their division team, they had home ice in that series.

Galchenyuk was the 3rd overall pick, he was a 30 goal scorer last year as a 21 year old. He's an RFA after the season though and I can see already he's not a Julien guy. He wasn't a Therrien guy either, they kept messing around with him. center to wing, to different lines, etc.
I think they'd ask for Barzal or Ho-Sang and a pick. I don't know the Islanders are a good match. I think a desperate contender would be better, not that the Islanders aren't a contender, but I think of them more as a contender to make the playoffs, not a cup contender. I think the Penguins or Blackhawks - someone like that might be better. for a team trying to make the playoffs I see Winnipeg as a decent match - I can see a Galchenyuk for Trouba trade. Or Calgary. Hamilton for Galchenyuk.
And I hate giving up offense, but for a top pair RD I'd have to consider it.

Only for the wild cards right? top 3 in each division make it then the top two next best records are the two wild cards.
Mayfield brings a toughness to this team it hasn't been able to find since Martin left and Clutter stopped being physical.
He definitely needs to stay in the lineup, it's not like he's a liability either
