NFT: Extra Innings Package vs MLB.TV (Single Team)

davek3698 : 2/23/2017 1:24 pm
Thinking of switching to the latter this year to save a few bucks. I need one of them down here around DC and rarely watch anything other than the Yanks. No need to pay for games I won’t watch. Has anyone used MLB.TV for games on a consistent basis? How is the quality? Do you get two feeds for each game, with each teams announcers? Thanks…
Assuming you live outside of the Yankees TV market

MLB.TV is totally worth it. The best mobile service I've ever paid for. As long as you have a Roku, Xbox, Chromecast - or something to download the MLB.TV app, you're golden. You can switch between audio feeds and choose between Kay and the YES team, Sterling & Waldman or the opposing team's announcers. The quality is also better than any streaming service I've used.
I Had It Last Year

I too decided to save money and got the "single team" (Yanks) option. With that option you only get the home team announcers, which was fine with me.

It's HD Quality, with occasional, minor issues, just like any other streaming event. All and all it's well worth the price.

If your profile is accurate and you live in Montgomery County, MD, then they will black out games whenever the Yanks play the O's, just like they do for me here in Tampa when the Yanks play the Rays. They do however show the full broadcast (and a 30 minute recap) of the game the next day.
Do you know how much a one team package costs?

Last year I just hooked up a slingbox at my folks house and was able to watch off of that, but the reception is touch and go.
Looks like the single team

package is $87.49/year
ASJ nailed it

As a SoCal based, NY sports fan MLB.TV is by FAR the best of the streaming services. NFL Gamepass made strides this year, but MLB.TV is still the best, plus you get LIVE games. It's a cord-cutters dream too. Very seamless and easy to use via Roku/Apple TV/XBOX or on a tablet/phone.

I do the single team (Yankees) and I think it's $87 for the season. Just over 50 cents per game isn't a bad deal.

And as ASJ mentioned, you can choose which audio or TV feed you want. About 6 hours after a game ends you can also re-watch and easily skip ahead innings.

Do it.
Great timing for this thread

(Yankee fan here) I was looking into this as well today, as well as possibly "cutting the cord" possibly in the spring/summer. I have a Firestick that is basically all I use right now, and I would just watch the games this way. I did email customer service and I think one benefit (to me anyway) of spending the extra money for the full MLB.TV package and not going with just the one team, is it sounds like for the blackout games, if you don't want to wait until the next day, they throw in the audio for free, whereas if you just get the one team, they do not. However, I am reluctant to cancel my DirecTV subscription because of how often they play on ESPN, etc., plus in NC where we get MASN, we'd also be subject to blackout for all Yanks-Orioles games. Therefore the direction I am leaning is getting a VPN and hopefully avoiding the blackout games, because there's just no way I'd actually wait and watch the games the next day (or at 3am), so that is the only potential hangup for me right now.

I should have mentioned that I have Sling via Roku. I pay $40/month for both the Blue and Orange. So when the Yankees are on ESPN or TBS, I'll get those games. Worth noting: I got my Roku for free by signing and pre-paying for 3 months of Sling.

And because I dove head first into cord cutting, I also get them if they're on FOX via my HD antenna.

It belongs on a separate thread, but there are definitely some start-up costs to cord cutting if you want to do it right. $100 for a good HD antenna and you'll definitely need a fast Internet connection.

It looks like a single team is $87.49. I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on it as well. I should be able to stream games using my PS4 with it, correct?

I didn't know this existed, thanks. Did the same thing.
I think I am going to pull the trigger this year

I have a Roku TV, so I should be good to go.
This works great for me

I put the game on my PC on mute while watching regular tv with my wife. She does not lose me for 4 hours of baseball (lucky her) and I still can see the action. Baseball's speed can allow me to multi-task and baseball on mute is not so bad. I love this offering.
I used it too and re-upped
section125 : 2/23/2017 3:57 pm : link
again this year. Think it is $85 plus tax. I watched on my laptop. It would occasionally freeze, but for the most part is well worth the money. Much better after I went to a faster internet speed.

I had the full package, but Comcast was overcharging. I(we) was supposed to have a settlement via Federal Court for $120 per year continuing into the future. But local Comcast was coy so I told them to go pound sand and signed up for MLB.TV.

Do it.
Thanks mstyles

Not only can you watch a day later, but you can go back and watch any game at any time...even in the off season.

A month ago when I was missing baseball I went back to some Yankee games to re-watch some Sanchez HRs. All the games were still available for the whole season!
What can't they have this for NFL teams/games
superspynyg : 2/24/2017 8:43 am : link
I would rather just get Giants games and pay $150 for the season (about 10 bucks per game) than that full package every time.
I have Direct TV
joeinpa : 2/24/2017 9:36 am : link
Are you guys saying I can get the single team package through them. Not really understanding what is available here.

I m a San Francisco Giants fan since 62. Would appreciate if you can clear this up

No. Extra innings package is more expensive to begin with than MLB.tv premium. Secondly, you can only choose the single team package from MLB.tv, not from a cable/sat provider.
