What is up with Cousins and the Skins?

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 2/23/2017 5:49 pm
I was just reading an article on NFL.com that said he wanted out of DC and that there was better than 50 50 odds he ends up with the 49ers.

Cousins is a good QB and that position is paramount in this league. Who would the Skins replace him with? The 49ers have the second ovreally pick and I don't see them giving that up for Cousins so there goes Kizer, Trubisky, and possibly Watson.

Just an odd turn of events.
The Skins are screwed.

Cousins said he is not signing a long term deal which means if Washington wants him they have to tag him and it will cost 23 million against their cap basically handcuffing them. He wants to be tagged so they trade him.

I forget what happened but I think he wanted along term deal with Washington but they chose to tag him to see if he could do it again. He did and now he flipped the script on them. I kind of like it. You see teams have the advantage all the time. Cousins with a bit of luck has played his hand perfectly.

Cousins to the 49ers thread yesterday?

Danny Boy is the Giants best friend. He is a complete eff up, close to Dolan in futility and ineptness.

If that's true then it's hilarious and put's this little clip into better perspective.
How you like me now!? - ( New Window )
Cousins to Niners.

Cap to Browns.
RGIII to Dallas as a backup.
Romo to D.C.

Not one team has a winning record this year.

Book it

The Cowboys are going to have a losing record next season?

I doubt it.

He'll be back with the Skins.

if Washington lets Cousins get away from them they are going to regret it. The one thing they have is a great passing game. Lost Cousins - who will throw the ball for them?

Good luck Washington (not really). To the DC BBIers - how are the Washington fans reacting?
If Snyder was still calling the shots
Jay on the Island : 2/23/2017 7:04 pm : link
he would trade Cousins to the 49ers for their first round pick and then foolishly send that pick to the Cowboys for Romo.
Romo
shelovesnycsports : 2/23/2017 7:32 pm : link
would fill up that stadium next year and get them prime-time games. That is all Danny is interested in. Jones wants a 1st round pick and SF wants Cousins.
RG3 to Dallas would be a pipe dream but great.
Washington doesn't really have a choice.
robbieballs2003 : 2/23/2017 7:45 pm : link
They can tag him for one more yewr and eat up most of their cap space meaning they cannot improve their team and then they lose Cousins in 2018 since they cannot tag him again next year unless there is a rule for tagging QBs three years. Washington is in a bad spot. Either lose your QB for picks or have your QB on a 1 year 23 million dollar deal. The picks sound good in that scenario.
Assuming what's up is the same as what was discussed yesterday

Did we miss something that you felt needed to be discussed again?

Possibly but Romo may not even make it through 1 entire game. He's literally a glass man now.
No way Romo is traded to skins
ThatLimerickGuy : 2/23/2017 8:24 pm : link
Boys/Skins is like Giants/Eagles in terms of rivalry.

Imagine if we traded Eli to the Eagles for a 1st round pick and he whooped our ass? Fan base would revolt.

My guess is Romo to Jets as the carousel goes around Romo is going to be left with being a backup somewhere or starting for gang green.
I don't think they think Romo will be traded
robbieballs2003 : 2/23/2017 9:15 pm : link
But rather cut and free to sign with any team. Now, I don't know why the Cowboys wouldn't try to trade him but there ws a report that said Romo will not be traded and that he will be released. No idea how true it is but we will see what happens.

Have no starting WR's either .... tagging at 23 million could crush them.
They are in a rough spot
Tom in DC : 2/24/2017 6:39 am : link
Essentially, they have told him they don't think he's worth the 4-5 year, 90-125 million dollar or so investment. Maybe they haven't said that in words, but their preference to using the franchise tag pretty much states that.

His play last year was fine, and was good enough to earn a big payday for a starting QB. When guys like Flacco and Osweiler are getting around 40 million guaranteed, Cousins is going to feel like he's not being fairly compensated.

The skins have a few options, none of them are good, and the fact they don't have a clear replacement doesn't help.
The Skins
Pete in MD : 2/24/2017 7:55 am : link
don't really want him (mainly the owner but he calls the shots) and Cousins really doesn't want to be there because of how he's been treated. Something has got to give.
Cousins
stretch234 : 2/24/2017 8:32 am : link
Snyder is screwing this up. He does not like Cousins and is still annoyed about RG111

If they franchise him again and he stays for the year they would have paid him 43M for 2 years guaranteed. 2 years ago they could have given him 5-80M contract with 43M guaranteed and be done with it.

If franchised, the 2 years guaranteed money is more than every other QB total guarantee except Rodgers, Luck & Flacco.

He has them by the balls - more power to him

That is a problem that isn't mentioned often enough. Jackson and Garcon are likely both gone. Doctson missed his entire rookie season. Reed is one more concussion away from not remembering his zip code. Their running game is pedestrian. Their defense is poor. They really need a lot of help. This could be another reason Cousins wants to leave, although I think it's more that he doesn't believe that management treated him fairly last off season.

Some of their FO apparently believes that McCoy is a more than adequate replacement, at least until they can find a permanent successor, which I assume would be a draft pick or Sudfeld. That all seems pretty unrealistic. The Redskins haven't had a QB in 20 years before Cousins, and they may well have to watch him go out the door.
Cousins is the sequel to Kerry Collins
Greg from LI : 2/24/2017 11:15 am : link
Piles up a bunch of yardage but not that many TDs. Generally sucks in the red zone. Doesn't play well in pressure situations - in the must-win game against the Giants this season, he was dreadful.

joeinpa : 2/24/2017 12:07 pm : link
Collins was a pretty good quarterback for the Giants. Cousins is a guy you can win with
Collins was OK - he was level of competition dependent
jcn56 : 2/24/2017 12:12 pm : link
He could feast on substandard competition, but would flounder in the face of tougher opponents. And his propensity to make an unprompted mental error drove you nuts. Out of the clear blue, he'd make a stupid throw and commit a turnover (unlike a throw forced by pressure, etc.) and it would kill you.

Not a bad QB, not a great QB - an OK QB. I don't know if Cousins is that, but I do think he has not shown he can perform when the level of competition gets turned up or the stakes are high.

A lot like Andy Dalton.

Skins screwed up by not signing him last year.

Anyone who hi is this kid Ian worth 23 million a year is a moron. Let him
Go for
Picks and cut your losses

They sign him they don't have any WRs
And their D sucks still.
