This article in the USA Today saying that Eli is washed up, and the team should cut him at the end of next season. (Not sure if this came up in the thread about Eli's window.)
saying his career was on the back end and they had an eye on finding the QB to come next and someone else from the org leaking that they thought he was on the decline.
This isn't the last article this offseason that's going to be like this.
I would love to see a stat that shows how much average time
don't quarrel with his statistics, or that Eli had accuracy problems. And I wonder if Eli is more suited for Keven Kilbride's down the field offense, than McAdoo's west coast version.
But the writer underestimates the problems with the OL. Flowers at times was awful. Eli clearly had no confidence in him. Jerry and Newhouse are journeymen at best. Richburg regressed, possibly because of injury. And Pugh was injured. Eli himself took several wicked shots, including one against the Redskins in week 3 IIRC. That may have affected him the entire season.
Eli also had no running game until Perkins started. And he never had a deep threat or a TE who could threaten the seem. Tye is a valuable player, but should be the #3 TE. The Giants therefore played a lot of Cover 2 against the Giants, which is hard to throw against. We didn't have the running game to get them out of that look.
Eli may well be declining, but we need one more season to find out for sure.
RE: I would love to see a stat that shows how much average time
Eli has before he has to get rid of the ball compared to the rest of the league.
I think Eli still does more with less than most of the NFL's QB's
Steve, it's pathetic. After one game last season, a report came out that Eli was within 1 yard of being clobbered by a defender on every passing play except one!
People should STFU about 'Eli in decline' until our Oline moves from "horrendous" to "shitty".
Does 2016 Eli look the same, physically, as 2011 Eli?
Of course not....
The question, is, how much of a decline is there?
How in the world do you judge this?
He has been playing behind a declining OL, for 5 seasons...
He has played with TE's, that for the most part, can only be described as serviceable.....
In the last 5 seasons, has Eli had the option of running on 3rd and short?
What has he had for weapons since 2011? Declining Hicks and Cruz? Drive killer Randle? He has had OBj, and nothing else...
We will never know until he plays behind, at least an average OL, that can pass block, and create a consistent run game, and has more than one weapon to throw to, besides OBj.....

Steve, I'm too lazy to look it up right now, but PFF listed the quickest release times by QB. Eli had 2.3 or 2.5 seconds. Sure there were a few plays he had longer, which also makes it frightening clear that on some of the plays he had less. Some plays are designed with a hot read/release, but quite a few where the OL just allowed a free release. There was also a PFF ranking on QB Pressures (not just a sack) and Flowers and Hart yielded over 100 QB pressures combined.
he is not even close... The line betrayed him, Cruz was not Cruz, specially on the outside. TE? What TE? Give him these weapons and let's see how really washed up he is.
Toughest SOB at QB in the league thus far, and with that line he either had to be or get rid of the rock... I'd take my chances with Eli for the next couple, but for God sakes give him a decent chance.

Meant to say that teams played a lot of Cover 2 agains the Giants.
It's not blasphemy to suggest that Eli has lost a step or two...
So to speak. However, I don't think he's "done" by any stretch of the imagination. Give him a less porous O-Line. Give him a much more dynamic running game. Give him a good complimentary WR and a TE who can stretch the seam and he'll be fine. No QB, no matter how young or talented he is, can be successful without these things.
Before kicking him to the curb, I would like to see the team fix the OL so we know how much of the O's woes were due to Eli's decline as opposed to extremely poor OL play. I am hopeful Eli has a lot left in the tank and that we will see a resurgence with better blocking and a more balanced attack.
Just proved to me that our offensive line sucks(no surprise there) and that Coach Mac shouldnt be calling the plays as the Head Coach , since our offense seem pretty predictable. I understand that a lot of other. Do coaches told him to keep calling the plays on offense ,but as a first year head coach maybe it's to much for him at one time. Yes Eli had the typical Eli moments, but seemed to me there really was a lot of miscommunication. While some may think Eli is done after last season, I don't think you can really have solid proof of it with so many other issues thAt needed fixing.
He never had one. That's not his game. The only thing to evaluate physically is his arm, which by my untrained eye is fine.
But his skills could be declining relative to the continued improvement at the position across the league. Eli is sort of a one trick pony: read the D and take what looks best. Like a cerebral guy's wildcat. His lack of mobility, suboptimal touch on short throws and screens can't keep D's honest. Some, particularly Philly, can play him pretty well. Eli dosen't seem to have much of a plan B, so now his game appears old. That why he could be out sooner than we think
Last season didn't prove anything to me either way, but it certainly suggested that he may be in real decline. Hard to tell for sure with that O-line.

That was Eli's outlier year.......you're going to get a more accurate reading to how he's performed in years other than 2011.
And, 2016 wasn't much different IMO.
He's still a very good QB...........
