Hicks really offers nothing. I fully understand rebuilding or re-tooling and I am patient. But, I don't want to do it with guys like Hicks on the roster. I want all their serious youngsters playing as much as possible. At least the veterans they signed in Holliday and Carter have some serious pop and some past performance to fall back on. Hicks has a few awesome throws and little else.

And, he constantly misjudges fly balls to CF. Sometimes his speed allows him to correct the mistake but other times he plays outs into base hits!
He's just filling out the roster until he's bumped for one of the prospects hot on his heels.
Agreed. He is on a short leash. Some in the organization think he can play. He had all of last year to show he can.It will be interesting how much rope they give him.

My point is he shouldn't even be filling out a roster spot in ST. He shouldn't be anywhere near a roster of a team in the playoff hunt, let alone with a good shot at the #4 OF spot, or a shot to start. A team like the Yankees this year should have either one of the young players in RF/DH/1B or a guy like Holliday (or Beltran last year). hicks is a semi-veteran who offers nothing as a plus outside of his arm. Everything he does is bad to mediocre.
outside of Judge, though, what outfielders are ready to play?
Frazier didn't exactly light up AAA last year. I like Mason Williams and I still think he could stick in MLB, but he has had a bunch of injuries and an uneven track record in the minors. Fowler isn't ready. Austin's hurt, is a terrible outfielder, and needs to prove that his resurgence at the plate isn't a fluke. Jake Cave? Ehhhh....
I'm hardly a fan of Hicks, but at the moment I'm not bent out of shape by his presence. He won't be around too much longer.
We haven't seen that at all in the majors. He might be the worst hitting OFer in the majors right now.
That said, this is probably his last chance to be a major leaguer. Has to hit or you are right, he has basically no value. I could see Mason Williams having a good spring and knocking Hicks off the team.

Greg - I'd rather Judge, who has a bigger upside and less of a negative resume, play regularly than ever see Hicks. This will be his 5th of 6th season in the majors already. He isn't going to get significantly better. Judge may or may not, but I'd rather see him try, even if he struggles. I agree the other guys aren't quite ready, but may be soon. Between Judge, Bird, Holliday, and Carter there is your OF/1B/DH most nights with an OF in reserve.
of Holliday and I am well aware of Carter's warts. But, Holliday is still a farily decent hitter with some pop and carter has a ton of power. They both bring more to the table, even in their flawed states, than Hicks.
Looked good. Fastball hitting 95 and got about 4 out of 6 outs on it. I believe this team will be a lot better than everyone expects because of our young pitching. Our bullpen will be the best in the league. Clipperd, Dellin and Chapman of course but that 6th inning could go to Severino or Green who both looked excellent out of the Pen.
You can really see the bat speed that they talk about. That was a bit of an inside out swing on the triple but he was quick to the ball and hit it hard. He should have stopped at second and would have been dead at third if the 3B was able to handle the throw.

Yeah should have stopped at 2nd, but was indecisive a bit running. Seemed he sped up 1/2 way to 1st then slowed going to 2nd and then sped up again. Watching the TV view with Espada waving Andujar home, maybe Frazier thought Espada was waving him to 3rd?
this would be a REALLY REALLY fun season to watch (regardless of record).
I hope Bird stays healthy and has a good year.

Dude ellsbury is not that terrible a player where he should ruin the season for you. So he makes a lot of money who cares. He's an ok player in center at the very least. Maybe he finally has one of those leap years career years. One can only hope. Still the yanks have a fun young team.
box score on ESPN - feels great to have a baseball game to follow, especially on a warm day like this! Nice to see bats producing, although I know it's just the first ST game ... I think it's going to be an entertaining if sometimes frustrating season.
That's like saying you're not an optimist when walking into the Bunny Ranch. I mean, wtf is wrong with you people? You're not an optimist when it comes to the most successful franchise in all of sports? You're the kind of guy that gives all of us Yankee fans a bad name. its nauseating, really.
It's a little cloudy in Tampa this morning, but it should be sunny and 83 degrees by game time.
There's no place I'd rather be today.
Go Yanks!

YES Network had it just the opposite Maybe they were wishful thinking, like me!

Exactly.
Glad to see Bird ready to go, some lefty power from him would be huge

Nice homer for Didi.

I figured, but it needed a bump. Plus, I didn't see any game postings....
Nearly over the scoreboard
I've often wondered why this wasn't done. But there aren't enough pitchers on the team.
That was pretty funny. Just looked behind....
2B - Gleybar Torres
LF - Clint Frazier

LOL, it used to be when the vets came out of the game to change the channel. Now can't wait to see the kids.
haha. That was ridiculous.

Than he went on to say he can't think of anyone who has success at his height.
Ever hear of Giancarlo Stanton, Michael?

Lots of young kids on this team. Let's just hope Ellsbury takes the mentoring role seriously and buys into being a part of the process.
I am so bought into the youth movement that I don't have the energy to dwell on Ellsbury anymore.

Richie Sexson was the same height as Judge. He had a strong peak with 6 straight years of 120-40 ops+
Tony Clark was also 6'8" and had a long, decent career. Played 15 seasons, had a handful of great ones for the Tigers.
Adam Dunn is 6'6" 285 and he hit 462 homers in his career.
I just feel like this team is going to rake.

Yes, the Yankees have been kind in my 34 years on this fine planet
Or do you want to dig in on the other stuff that has nothing to do with anything?
I'd call you argumentative but you don't seem coherent enough for that to be a conscious decision.
