Just because . . .
The Giants cannot reach a long term deal with JPP, so they put the non-exclusive FT on him. They can't get two #1's, but trade him to Jacksonville for a #2 this year, and a #2 next year. BBI is furious.
The Draft . . .
BBI is still smarting about the JPP "fiasco," but is salivating about the extra #2 pick from Jacksonville. Then Reese starts making calls. He eventually finds a partner, and trades #23 and Jacksonville's #2 this year to trade up for . . .
Patrick Mahomes.
BBI decides this is worse than the arrival of the zombie apocalypse or the Cowboys winning the Super Bowl for ten consecutive years.
BBI is almost catatonic when Day Two of the Draft begins, but is shaken from its stupor and stunned with another body blow when in the second round Reese picks:
Adam Shaheen.
And then in the third round he picks:
Trey Hendrickson.
Reese gets what he can for JPP, and with these picks reaffirms his commitment to his board, that FA is for needs, and that the draft is for the future. He says that Mahomes was their highest rated QB, and reminds everyone that Eli is on the "back nine of his career." He says Shaheen was their third rated TE, and reminds them of Gronkowski. Hendrickson can rush, and is a kick blocking machine.
If the Giants tagged JPP and couldn't reach and agreement, I think they'd keep him and try to sign him again next year.
And if they really wanted Mahomes, he'd probably still be there at the Giants' regular pick in the 2nd RD.
There are rumors that Mahomes could be a first round pick, and someone on another thread said the Giants are very high on him. As I have indicated elsewhere, I am not. I also don't think the Giants will take Shaheen or Henderson, since both are developmental prospects.
This place is great
The Giants instead of Drafting Patrick Mahomes traded up using 1 of those #2's Jacksonville's pick to get Jamal Adams
Since the NFL has evolved into a passing league, The Hybrid Saftey/LB would give us one of the most fearsome Secondarys in all Football
BTW I like the TE pick
I don't know about you, but I'm here for the delicious popovers.
