As our country continues to overwork both adults and school children alike, with diminishing time spent between the two, perhaps it is time to re-visit our fundamental values.
I'm 49 and remember how important the family structure was for me. As someone who is very close to my nieces who are in their early 20's, their lives were full of activities not related to the family and today, don't feel they are better off for it.
In a tech happy world full of cell phones, FB, Twitter- it appears the face-to-face communication is at an all time low.
Perhaps a stretch, but why not promoting the Monday after each a national holiday where kids can visit parents, or vice versa, with the understanding is simply, face-to-face communication.
Sure, it won't eliminate all the distractions we have but maybe, an opportunity to get back to the relationships that are most important.
She's obsessed with me now, I'll cherish it for as long as possible but it may not last too long.

Technology was supposed to make jobs easier, but in reality they have created ways to get 1 person to do 3 to 5 peoples jobs. It's one of the major reasons for an increase in heart attacks for people in their 30's and 40's because they literally cannot get away from work.
But you bought their phones and tablets..... Take them away.
