Clayton:Predicting contract terms for top 25 NFL free agents

14. Jason Pierre-Paul, DE

2016 team: New York Giants | Age: 28

Projected contract: Three years, $37.5 million total

The Giants would have to go to approximately $17 million to franchise JPP for the second straight year. New York gave Olivier Vernon a big deal in 2016 worth $17 million a year, and I don't think it wants both of its ends at that number. Pierre-Paul could get a short-term deal in the range of $12 million to $15 million a year.

16. Andrew Whitworth, OT
2016 team: Cincinnati Bengals | Age: 35
Projected contract: One year, $10 million total

17. Kevin Zeitler, OG
2016 team: Cincinnati Bengals | Age: 27
Projected contract: Four years, $36 million total

Think they'd have to go longer and higher for JPP

And longer for Whitworth.
Whitworth's exit is going to be dependent on Cincy
jcn56 : 2/24/2017 1:09 pm : link
I think that if they offer him anything to stay, he's not leaving. He's been there awhile, likes it there, his family is based there. Unless they don't want to give him a spot or he gets lowballed, I doubt he's going anywhere.

For JPP - that's wishful thinking. Too many FA dollars available for him to stand at that level. I don't think he's going to get Vernon money, but I think he'll be close.
He is out of his mind

teams are swimming in cap space...all of those are WAY too low in my opinion.

Think so as well.
haven't clicked the link

but I think a 5 year old could throw out better guesses. I'd be stunned if JPP doesn't get a higher AAV and more years.

Zietler's 26(?) and will likely get 5 years with AAV close to Osemele's.

Whitworth I think can get 2 years from someone if he chooses to look elsewhere.
Probably wasn't listed

But I wonder where he would have pegged Hankins. I think he's low with respect to JPP (if it were 3 years I'd figure $42-45), but if that were the price I think they could bring back both.
It's all speculation based on media consensus...

But his numbers are much lower than what others are projecting for all of them.

I disagree with your estimate. If it's *only* 3 years, then I think the AAV will need to be significantly higher. Something like 3 yrs/$51M. But for a 5 year deal, I can see the AAV closer to $14-15M.

JPP got $10M last year despite serious questions about his ability to still play at a high level with his hand injury (and reportedly turned down more from AZ). After answering all those questions, I have a hard time believing that he wouldn't get 5 year offers for significantly more per season on the open market. I don't think his guaranteed money will come close to Vernon's, but I think his AAV will be closer to $17M than the $10M he played for in 2016.
That 37.5 million
Big Rick in FL : 2/24/2017 2:03 pm : link
Is what I think JPP gets in guaranteed money. I said earlier in the week I think his guaranteed money is somewhere between 35 & 40 million. Remember people the guaranteed money is the only money that matters.

Haskins was not listed.
JPP is getting 5 years

And very near Vernon numbers. 3/37?!?! That's nuts.
JPP

Has very little going for him as a big time FA his numbers are good against the run, ok against the pass, hand injury, long back injury history, a 28 year old tease of once extremely great talent. The major factor is there is no reason to pay him big dollars he is no longer a big time talent a poor team may offer 13-15 but not for more than one or two years with the third year of little or no cap hit against the team. JPP blew his big money contract away several years past why offer him a big one now?
I think he gets Vernon money on paper
Vanzetti : 2/24/2017 11:43 pm : link
but he won't get the same amount guaranteed

that way, jpp has his ego assuaged and can make the same money as OV if he produces like the old JPP. And Giants protect themselves with an injury prone player

.

A very lucid post, need more of that on BBI.
Personally I said a couple weeks back, wouldn't pay him
more than the 3/31 deal the Seahawks paid M. Bennett.
I think Zeitler will get more AAV as well, closer to 10-11.

Missed this huh? Projected contract: Three years,
$37.5 million TOTAL. Secondly, you are clueless if you think
JPP is getting 35-40 GTD!
