Who admittedly hung me out to dry (but still swears that a week before the draft that Myles Jack to the Giants in the 1st was a real possibility). He was the first to relay the info to me (which I posted 1st here) about Vernon signing so I guess I'll call him 1 for 2.
He said Okung isn't really a priority. The word on him in the league is that he lost about 3 steps in the last 2 years. If he signs with Giants it will be for either a very team friendly contract or a 1 year Marty B type of deal.
As for other targets in general he said he doesn't expect anything major for 2017 in terms of free agents to the Giants. He did say that Marshall does want to stay in NY/NJ but that he is also not going to take a deal significantly lower than his value. If it was a difference between 1 mil between being here or elsewhere he would likely stay.
I asked him about the O-Line and he said the team really thinks they need to upgrade in one spot only, whether it be RT or RG. If that means signing a LT and moving Flowers to RT I don't know.
Again take it with a grain of salt- the guy works at a sports agency and other than the Myles Jack debacle has been pretty good with info (sometimes breaking it to me an hour or two before I see it here).
@JordanRaanan: Not going to be the only TE #Giants contact. Heard they're monitoring top of the TE market (Bennett, Cook, Doyle, etc) as well https://t.co/gOf5Ws2h7o

but a friend in Chicago has a reliable asshat who has told him that the Bears are close to terms with Mike Glennon and looking at trade partners for Cutler.
CSN Chicago is reporting that the Bears are the only team with serious interest in Glennon. The Jets, 49ers, and Bills had some interest but dropped out of the bidding.
I have somewhat of a link to Brandon Marshall. Was just recently told that while he plans on moving to BK full time with his family his three primary targets are the Seahawks, Patriots and Steelers.
He did not mention the Giants as a team of interest to Brandon but that doesnt mean things cant change. The above teams may not have interest/meet his financial demands.
Gregg Rosenthal speculative tweets on vet RB market:
indicated the Eagles were looking to trade Connor Barwin, Jason Kelce, Jordan Matthews, and Chase Daniels. He mentioned he thought Barwin would get traded somewhere on the West Coast. He said there have been no contract discussions between Matthews and the Eagles. Thought he could be moved in a deal for a receiver. He also mentioned Carson Wentz having elbow soreness during the season.
Getting a billion texts from people that Kenny Britt is in Atlantic City and is bragging about signing with the Eagles. So, cool. I guess.

With the WR market still settling, #49ers set their sights on signing Pierre Garcon, sources say. He's familiar with Kyle Shanahan's system
Josh McCown en route to meet with Dallas. Heard on Mike and Mike this
Darin Gantt at PFT was the source on that. Says McCown would accept mentor role. Romo most likely headed to Houston after being released, better O line than Denver.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Browns are "very interested" in free agent FB Kyle Juszczyk.
I want the Giants to take a look at him. More than just a FB.
Yes this guy is the best FB to come along since Vonta Leach. I am surprised that the Giants haven't expressed interest in Juszcyk. He is a beast.
I think we can make an educated guess on how important a fullback is to the team based on how they addressed it last year, and how they didn't attempt to address it all when they lost all their potential fullbacks.
OL market is about to get lit up. Doubt we'll be able to afford any of the FA's we've heard about. Looks like we'll have to wait to see who gets cut, and if we can find any diamonds in the rough in the draft.
I'm guessing their cap space just got much better?
Alshon Jeffrey perhaps?
If I remember correctly I think it only saves $5M in cap. Someone correct if incorrect.
Here's what I found:
Quote:
Cowboys release Romo now
This appears to be the clubhouse leader of possible scenarios. If the Cowboys release Romo prior to the free agency period, or during the beginning phase of it, they would gain $5.1 million of 2017 salary cap space while saving $14 million in actual cash by not having to pay his base salary for the season.
Were Romo to stay on the Cowboys roster for 2017, his cap hit would be $24.7 million. The extra $10.7 million on top of his $14 million salary for the season is due to the signing and restructuring bonuses the Cowboys have used to clear up cap space over the duration of Romos time in Dallas.
On top of the $10.7 million 2017 allocation, there are also $5.7 million allocated to 2018 and $3.2 million in 2019 that must be accounted for. If hes released, these amounts accelerate onto the 2017 cap.So while the $14 million in base salary goes away, the $10.7 million, $5.7 million and $3.2 million all hit the 2017 cap. That total, $19.6 million, sits on the Cowboys cap as dead money. That would be a $5.1 million cap savings from his hit of $24.7 million if he were still on the roster.
While some might say its not enough savings to warrant moving away from a great backup option (especially because another backup will eat into that $5.1 million), one must consider all of the space that now sits on future years cap totals.
Romo is currently on the books for 2018 for a $25.2 million cap hit. A base salary of $19.5 million is wiped out from the release, and $5.7 million of prorated bonus accelerates off that ledger as well. Same for 2019, when he has a $23.7 million bill due.
Cowboys release Romo as June 1 designation
The NFL has a built-in rule that allows a team to push off some of the dead money acceleration to next years cap. If the team is willing to wait on the benefits of removing a players base salary ($14 million) until a few weeks after the draft, then they can push the remaining proration (for Romo $8.9 million) into 2018.
That means Romo remains on the books during the first wave of free agency for his full $24.7 million hit. Once June 1 arrives (its actually a date in May now, but the name remains), Romos base salary comes off the books and he only counts $10.7 million against the cap for 2017.
Romo will now take up $8.9 million of 2018 cap space for the bonus amounts that were allocated to the 2018 and 2019 seasons. This gets Romo to a new team as quickly as possible for his benefit. The release happens as soon as the league year starts, but the Cowboys dont see the savings until later.
...Marshall is headed the other way took less for two reasons, his family life in NY and a shot at a title. If he shopped for max money he probably gets around $9M per for two years. Which is what the Jets paid him.
I don't understand what the Dolphins are doing there.

Would love either of those backs, but realistically I think it costs us too much dough. Think we need OL, TE, and a big possession WR
With their current $6.4m in cap space.
Sorry:

Either would be amazing. Lacy is a guy that screams Giants. Good talent needs a change of scenery.
And apparently AJ Bouye has deals in the $12 million range annually.
On a separate note, there's a very real chance that the Redskins lose their starting QB and both starting WR's.
