OT DJ Fluker agrees to a one-year deal with the Giants, source says. Former 11th overall pick gets a chance to reset his career.
I would love to see him move to RG and become the road grader they desperately need there. Then address LT in the draft and move Flowers to RT. Fluker and Flowers on the right side is a big nasty combination.
So now Flowers is going to reset his career at a position he's never played in his life. And you're handing the keys at LT to a kid with a hip injury who's never played a down in the nfl.
Thank the Big Electron you're not the GM. Holy shit.
That's pretty big. They needed to sign someone decent and he's still young enough to improve. Like others have said, hopefully he's the RG since I think he'd play better there than at RT. But it wouldn't surprise me to see them bring back Jerry with Fluker as the RT.
The Giants were reportedly very high on him during the draft

apologies....didnt expand on my thinking. draft a LT at 23 and allow the pieces to fall as they may. this is how i have them falling. guys get drafted all the time and start right away. ramcyzk is sound in terms of technique. he should transition well to the NFL. flowers isnt a OT imo, kick him inside, where his technique flaws could be hidden some. and fluker was better as a RT than a RG. but to my original point him and flowers will be on right side...who plays OG and OT is yet to be seen. this was my prediction for how it falls. btw plug ANY of the top 4 rookies in at LT. sorry but they cannot be worse than flowers right now
Over Ramczyk. I think he's much better suited to play LT than Ramczyk is. Have an OL of Bolles-Pugh-Richburg-Fluker-Flowers. Could be a very good OL
It is way more likely that Fluker would be the RG with Flowers at RT. I still firmly believe that Flowers will be the opening day LT regardless of what they do in the draft. The Giants are very persistent on giving their 1st round picks every opportunity to succeed. Let's hope that Flowers has a great off-season and he works tirelessly on his technique and has a breakout season.

i like bolles, just went ramczyk as he is more sound technique wise, well at least thats my opinion. but again, feel the pieces will fall with the rook at LT....

Thoughts on the signing?
It's a good signing. Do you kick him inside from the jump? I'm not sure they can do that.
But it's a one year prove it deal which I love. I just hope he's not shot. I liked him out of college and he disappointed. But that might be partly due to where he played.
Regardless, anything the team can do to address the OL is huge. I think they've had an excellent off-season so far.
This third year will be Flowers best. He's going to surprise a lot of people. Myself included. This is his year.
with limited funds to work with, he had a few needs that had to be addressed on offense
- Get a big WR to pair opposite Odell/Shepard
- Get a blocking TE / FB type
- Get a TE who can stretch the defense and make plays
- Sign an offensive lineman (at least one)
- Get a RB
Well, he was able to bring in Marshall, Ellison, and now Fluker. There are plenty of RBs available on the market and there isn't exactly a strong clamoring for their services. If they can find a way to get the JPP extension done, and bring back Hankins, and land a veteran RB to work with Perkins, they've done all you can really ask in free agency with what they had cap wise.
That opens up the draft to find a good TE (there are plenty of options) and also be in position to draft at DE or OL.

If Reese gets JPP signed ASAP and that enables us to keep Hankins, you're right, that would be one hell of a job. Hate to think of the interior line weakened with the loss of Hankins which I believe will show up when we defend the Cowboys. Love to keep this defense intact and possibly add a linebacker(Reddick)in the draft.
...or divided between salary and bonus (or guaranteed money). If it's all salary, they can release him at no cost in September if he fails to win a starting job. Of course I'm rooting for just the opposite, but it's always nice to have a cost-free escape clause.
As I said in another thread, I'd like to see them put Fluker on a diet and get his weight down to 320 lbs. But what I do know, if it was as simple as that I'm sure the Chargers would've demanded it of him.
RE: Hoping we find a way to sign LB Zach Brown and look into Sen'Derrick
Finally a at the very least good run blocker. Will help our running game slot.wether it's at RG or RT. Still stuck with flowers at Lt though. Hopefully he will improve?
The job now is to bring in competition for him. Its probably not Fluker, so there could be another move coming.
Or they go OL at 23. I'm not convinced by a damn sight that Ram from Wisconsin is worthy. He would be a downgrade from Flowers from the jump.
ehhh matter of opinion
B in ALB - Would you mind taking a look at the thread linked and view the scouting clip? I'm curious since you seem entrenched in your view of Ram how that differs from the scout. Thanks. Ramczyk Scout Review - ( New Window )
all due respect. its your opion ramczyk isnt worthy. i think hes yechnichally sound. many agree. i also like bolles. opionions r fine but what makes the draft great is there are no absolutes. just projections. we all get some right and some wrong
RE: RE: RE: Hoping we find a way to sign LB Zach Brown and look into Sen'Derrick
Marks. I'm resigned to the fact that Johnathan Hankins will not be back
Sen'Derrick Marks knees are shot.
Is that confirmed?
Supposedly he is rehabbed, but he suffered a nasty knee injury the prior season. Unfortunately, due to my geographical location, I get Jax games. He looks to be a shell of what he was.
Will add another player or two to compete for a starting position on the OLine, whether it's the draft or a free agent, but I would not be surprised to see the Giants add a couple of guards from this draft, it has some good prospects at guard, and guards are a lot easier to punch in and play. They also may just bring back Jerry, who did not play that bad last season, then draft a lineman, I would not expect to add a starting tackle from this draft, that does not mean they won't take one to compete for a job, but a plug and play tackle may not be available in this draft.
Plus you have to take the best player available in rounds 1 and 2, no bullshit about that either, we can ill afford misses in the first two rounds. We still need a tight end, running back, defensive end, linebacker, always can add a defensive back, and 1 or 2 offensive linemen. Reese has done things in free agency these last two seasons so he can add the best players available and also team leaders, and it has worked.
Deal is worth $3 mil. Essentially a "prove it" type deal-GM

Confirmed #Giants signed OT DJ Fluker to a one-year contract, as @MikeGarafolo said.
It's a $3M deal.
Twice what Warmack got. Tells me he'll probably be at RT unless they draft Ramcyzk or Bolles. Also leaves them 1-2 million over the cap.
If we do that our OL will contain 4 First Round draft picks and 1 2nd rounder.

I watched many Charger games since I lived in LA at the time...but can't say I can formulate my own conclusions.
Have a few texts out to core Charger fans for feed back...
After Newhouse signed with The Raiders...Reese needed to play a hand...

Plug him in at LT and open your options just a little more at 23....

Still need a bit more, but this is a good first step. Was starting to get extremely nervous.
Yes. I also said don't let him leave the building since he probable next visit was with NE Pats.
Glad Reese listened to me lol

Again. As of now, Flowers ain't going anywhere. Nor should he. He's going to get this season to prove it.
And like I said, I love players in prove it situations.
Fluke is better than what he showed in SD. I think he'll have a nice year here. He's not a savior or an elite player but it's a good addition for us.

I say no. Coming off his best season. And I feel like the Giants would've tried Pugh at LT by now if they were.
So has Flowers.

Plus he's a vet who will bring experience to what is a pretty green OL in both age and play. It's a really positive step by the FO.
