NFT: Blizzard 2017

Tom [Giants fan] : 3/12/2017 6:44 pm
It really looks like this thing is going to explode and dump upwards of 2 feet of snow on Long Island. I've seen some forecasts for up to 28 inches but that is going to be isolated where the heavy snow bands set up. In those bands, you may get 3-4 inches in a an hour. There may be some sleet mixed in at times because of the intensity of the storm. Along with Thunder snow.

The big concern is, there could be 70mph winds. This is going to be dangerous.

I am expecting Blizzard Warnings either late tonight or tomorrow morning.

This is not something to be taken lightly. Long Island is going to be shut down on Tuesday.

There is a small room for error here with a slight shift in the track but most models seem to agree with the scenario I just pointed out. I will use this thread if any updates are needed by lowering or even raising possible snow totals.

One thing is for sure, this is going to be a dangerous storm!

Sounds great! Never been there, but it looks great!

Right now here.....it has turn to big fluffy snow again and the totals are piling up. Just had three high school kids ask if they could shovel....turned them away because of snow blower.....and fact we are still supposed to get 5 more hours of snow.....oh well......25 years from now...I will wish for those kids!

wfmz says 1PM it should taper off, but the wind will still be bad. I'm not sure whether to snowblow when it stops or now (or both)

It has tapered off a bit so may go out in a few and try using the snow blower...but if the wind picks up...it could be wasted.

Worcester county

is getting hammered.

Boston not so much, the rain/snow line moved, but Worcester is getting slammed.

2 - 3 inches of snow per hour, 40+ mph wind gusts. 12+ inches on the ground so far, expected to snow until night. I had men's league hockey already canceled and my game is scheduled for 10pm. In 15+ years playing at the same rink they have never, not one time canceled. they hate canceling men's league.

have to find a way to get my dog outside, she hates this weather.
11 Inches in Cohoes/Troy/North Albany since 7AM

I think I have cabin fever. I am calling places to see if they are opened for lunch and not having much luck.

it would be (right on or near I-95) and everyone in the big cities is complaining about a bust. Instead it created a different type of storm with more sleet than I have ever seen around NYC and the inner suburbs/cities

I did around 11am
GentleGiant : 3/14/2017 1:28 pm : link
shoveled about a foot of very light snow off my driveway with relative ease, went back out a half hour ago and had a much harder time shoveling the 2 inches of hard pack that accumulated since then

The National Guard is driving my fiancée to and from work tomorrow.
So I just spent two hours clearing the driveway
B in ALB : 3/14/2017 7:20 pm : link
Then I head to the backyard to clear some paths for our dogs. I like to make little mazes for them to get lost in. They love it because we have a huge yard.

So I end up running over their lead and now it's completely tangled in my snowblower. Any ideas? I tried untangling it but it's completely knotted up and now freezing. I'm thinking the best thing to do is remove the auger and untangle it by hand.

I did a similar thing with a heavy duty extension cord I forgot I had to a spotlight in the middle of my lawn shining on some wreaths on a fence around Christmas. I was trying to snow blow a path to my outdoor hockey rink. f-in spoiled kids. I should have known better.

I got a big pliers and some wire snips and cut off sections as I could unwind it. It took a while, but I was done snow blowing pretty much by the time I did it.

I was worried about damaging the auger.

School cancelled for tomorrow already

Wonder how prevalent that will be.
That is some serious snow Mook

Be very careful clearing out all that snow.
it's a pretty thick covered steel lead
B in ALB : 3/14/2017 7:47 pm : link
I assume removing the auger - taking off the two bolts on each side - shouldn't be that difficult. It'll allow me to manipulate the tangled lead and remove it completely.

Probably the easiest solution if it's that tightly wound up in there. with the extension cord it was tightly wound, but I was able to get slack little by little.

Clarks Summit, PA. Got at least 5 more inches after that picture was taken

My driveway is too damn big to even think about clearing it out with this much snow, it's a bitch doing it even with 4-5 inches even with a snowblower, have a buddy coming in the morning to plow it. I already did the steps and sidewalk leading to the front door and cleared a path for my dog, not doing anything else.
A lot of North Jersey schools are closed solely because
Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 3/14/2017 10:03 pm : link
the fucking towns didn't plow until night and streets that were already awful will be worse after tonight. I'm talking not even one pass-through until 7-8 p.m. I have a friend who works takes a 5 a.m. bus and just got plowed in after 9 p.m.
In the Adirondacks we have over three feet right now
JerryNYG : 3/14/2017 10:17 pm : link
and are expecting another 6 - 12" tonight and 4 - 6" tomorrow. What a mess!
