It really looks like this thing is going to explode and dump upwards of 2 feet of snow on Long Island. I've seen some forecasts for up to 28 inches but that is going to be isolated where the heavy snow bands set up. In those bands, you may get 3-4 inches in a an hour. There may be some sleet mixed in at times because of the intensity of the storm. Along with Thunder snow.
The big concern is, there could be 70mph winds. This is going to be dangerous.
I am expecting Blizzard Warnings either late tonight or tomorrow morning.
This is not something to be taken lightly. Long Island is going to be shut down on Tuesday.
There is a small room for error here with a slight shift in the track but most models seem to agree with the scenario I just pointed out. I will use this thread if any updates are needed by lowering or even raising possible snow totals.
One thing is for sure, this is going to be a dangerous storm!

Thanks for the lesson chief. You are right, you don't know me, stick with that and move on since you have no clue on this one. My comment was supposed to be about being stuck inside yet again this winter and wanting winter to end so we can do things outside. If you want to look into it as more than just that, then yes you are being an asshole.
OK then, sorry for being an asshole. Hope you don't get snowbound too long and can get back to work soon.
Is it just me, or is the normally soft spoken and gentle Uconn getting in quite a bit of skirmishes lately ;)
It's my own fault, I used to do a better job of ignoring.
CT Gov banning all travel from 5 AM 3/14: WCBS Radio is dispensing with inches here or there and projecting 20" to 30" of snowfall.
I'm more worried about the trees around us than the daunting accumulation numbers.
UConn, I love ya man, but Stamford is gonna get more than 10" - 12".
jcn56, you still planning on the BBQ?
Gosh, isn't BBI great?

Yeah I don't buy the low totals, I'm expecting atleast a foot. My wife has a huge project due and just headed back to her office in Milford to try and finish before the snow starts. I have a mountain of work as well, not looking forward to catching up on Wednesday.
Stay warm everyone.
Boston did get creamed last year though.

this was a street in my town after the big blizzard in metro boston two winters ago. I shoveled some of this by hand.
Jeez, what is that 10 feet?
That isn't in the US. Note the lanes the cars are driving in.
I took that picture from my rear-view. images are reversed.
Yeah, right. I guess it was the rear-view on your helicopter. Japan for sure.
LI: Nassau gets more than Suffolk. North Shore gets more than South Shore. It's possible the Hamptons get a mostly wind-driven rainstorm with back-end snow. I'm thinking 8-15" in Nassau, more as you go north, and 4-10" in Suffolk, more as you go north and west. If the storm track shifts 15-20 miles east of the models then LI sees mostly snow all the way to Montauk
Northern Jersey: 16-20" near NYC, higher amounts in higher elevations. Possible 28-30" in the Sussex higher elevations. Mixing is a worry from Elizabeth on south towards Central Jersey.
Central Jersey: More snow away from the coast. Central Jersey near the PA border gets hammered, 18-24". Coastal areas will face mixing issues and some rain so I'm thinking 6-12 if you're a little away from the coast and less than 6" on the immediate coast.
South Jersey: Very hard to get snow from AC on south with that track along the coast. Thinking 3" at most. Areas near Philly will get into some mixing issues like Philly itself and you could see 6-12."
Baltimore around 6" with some ice, more snow north and west of there. DC 3-6", lots of ice. Western suburbs could get 6-9." Potential for crippling ice storm in the Beltway.
Hudson Valley, especially the Mid-Hudson, the Catskills, and Eastern PA except for extreme SEPA (Philly) is the jackpot. Lots of 20-24" amounts and some areas routinely over 2 feet. Lower Hudson (Westchester and Rockland) could also be a jackpot region along with Fairfield County and New Haven (CT). Anywhere in inland Connecticut gets hammered too

Cars don't drive in the left lane in the US?

On a two-lane road? Are you high?

Last time I checked, dotted white lines indicate a lane separating traffic in the same direction.
How do you make that clean a cut of snow in a 15' wall over minimum 500 yards and not have any snow piles?
It's mostly rain.
Sorry, Tom.
Boston did get creamed last year though.
Yes, I am. Is it Japan? I thought it was just some photo-shop or something like a model, but I think I post it every storm thread and every time someone comments, wow that's crazy.
It's mostly rain.
Sorry, Tom.
system moved a little west, i am in morris county new jersey and going to get slammed

This thing is gonna bust on Long Island, especially Suffolk. It went from 12-18 to now 3-8 in 24 hours and it's gonna end up on the low end of that. The meteorologists are trying to save face but this is already an epic bust and it's not even here yet.
It's mostly rain.
Sorry, Tom.

Same here.
We are gonna get fucked real good. 20-28 inches maybe
Gross but whatever. Gonna wake up at 9 to shovel then do another round at 1 then will do my last round when it ends.
Tons of calcium chloride for the aftermath on deck. Shits amazing.
My train station empty and lirr car has 2 people in it? Soft - very soft- barely a storm

Winter Weather Advisory for NYC until 8PM on 3/14. Blizzard Warning canceled. 4-8" of snow expected. www.weather.gov/nyc.
Albany totals anywhere from 18-24 expected. Albany Airport closed. The wind isn't bad yet in Schenectady, (I started shoveling around 6:00am...up to 4 inches, but very fine powder, great for skiing if you could get to a mountain!); heavy snow expected between 9:00am and 6:00pm. I'll probably break out the snow blower this afternoon.
I'm hoping this doesn't come close to the Blizzard of March 13th, 1999. That was no fun at all...
Stay safe up there.
you are basically right down the street from me, i am in succasunna, we got big snowflakes and i can barely see my neighbors accross the street
That storm was fun for me. Of course, I was a senior at SUNY at the time.
Same here - moved to ice real quick
So this morning there was a statewide state of emergency but they were still open.
Now there is a county wide state of emergency and a travel ban for non-essential personel and they are still open.
I think at this point they are just trying to save face by staying open.
My direct supervisor gave us the option depending on conditions where we are, so I'm home since I live on a hill, my poor lady though works in a hospital so she was forced to go in and they may call a code green which means she stays overnight.

Last night were supposed to get anywhere from 18 to 29 inches.
