My Post FA Mock Draft

CMicks3110 : 3/12/2017 7:42 pm
1-Rueben Foster LB/Alabama- Stock may have dropped due to bad combine interviews and attitude, and being sent home, could be character concerns, also height weight coming in lower than expected, 6'0" 229. Behind a big DL, he can move like lightning to tackle ball carriers and blitz.

2-DiShone Kizer QB/Notre Dame - (Trade 5th round pick to move up) - Watson and Mahomes are moving up the board. Assuming Cleveland drafts a QB in round 1, most of the teams in front of us don't have QB issues, I think we should trade up for Kizer and get a signal caller who is smart, has a good pedigree, and a lot of upside.

3-Chad Hansen WR/California - Super productive, smooth, similarities to Amani Toomer IMO, could be a good fit for a post Marshall world in a year or two, and provides insurance in case of injuries to WR.

4-Will Holden OT/Vanderbilt - Tall thick tackle, decent movement skills, more power to his game than frame would suggest. Would be a good right tackle candidate, but can also handle the left side. Looked good on tape.

5-Rushel Shell RB, West Virginia - Big back with springy change of direction skills. Was very adept at the shotgun draw in the WV offense from the video i watched. Seemed to have good vision and some power to his game. Didn't time well at the combine, but looks good on tape.

6-Brendan Langley - Speedy corner from small school. Great size and measurables. Raw and needs work, but lot of upside. Came from a small school and worked as a receiver for a few years before switching to corner. Talent theree

7-Ifeadi Odenigbo DE/Northwestern - First team all big 10, had 10 sacks, 12 TFLs. Tested well at the combine. Relentless but raw pass rusher. Would be a good addition to our 4 aces sub package.

LOVE foster....HATE kizer. especially on a trade up
Hate your first two picks.
chopperhatch : 3/12/2017 7:49 pm : link
Bad attitude and size issues with a LB? No thanks. Much prefer Reddick, a TE or a corner or even a DE.

And supposing Kizer makes it to 2, I am not wild on using the pick THIS year to replace Eli. I'd much prefer Roddick in 1 and Shaheen in 2.
Both your first two picks will not

I gave it a second thought and I think Kizer drops.
so like...
outeiroj : 3/12/2017 8:13 pm : link
lets ignore the fact there is no one there to play right tackle and not address that issue until the 4th round. Makes total sense.

also kizer wont make it out of the 15 picks let alone the first round.

Looks like Fluker will be RT. So need to address RG
But I agree. Should be addressed in first two rounds
Forrest Lamp or Dan Feeney or Dorian Johnson

you must have missed the thread and jordan ranaan article where he mentions the giants have plans to play him at RG. so again. we currently still need a real RT

don't think so.

Don't want Foster at this point, although I certainly wouldn't hate the pick.

Zero interest in Kizner, but he won't be around at #55. Not with the way QBs are valued. Hansen won't be available in the third.
We are dying for a pass catching TE
Jolly Blue Giant : 3/12/2017 8:44 pm : link
With the deepest TE draft in recent memory. No TEs selected. No way.
I'm old enough to remember LT's history...
KeoweeFan : 3/12/2017 9:38 pm : link
but in the modern NFL I hope the NYG don't gamble with character concerns in Round 1.
The team is in a limited window of opportunity; they need to go for "sure things" in my opinion.
Foster could very well be off the Giants 1st round board altogether
Torrag : 3/13/2017 12:04 am : link
Anyway not a fan of that draft too much. Back to the drawing board Wile E.
There is almost zero chance

Foster is lasting until 23. And if he does, it's an indication that the character concerns would drop him way down or off the board of an organization like the Giants.

I think Kizer is going in the first round, and further, I don't believe the Giants should draft a QB this year, especially with a premium pick. We need our premium picks to produce early, because we are in a small window for a championship right now. I recognize that there are those that say QB should not be off the board, the Aaron Rodgers comparisons, and so forth. However, with this specific team at this specific time, I don't think using a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd round pick at QB is at all advisable. Next year.

Shell I think is going to be a UDFA, maybe a 7th rounder. In any case, he can't be drafted in the 5th. Think about it, last year, Paul Perkins was taken in the 5th round, as well as Jordan Howard and other more dynamic runners, and this year, the RB talent is deeper than last year, imo.

Don't mean to be overly critical of your mock, just the conversation and the opinions about the players is what doing these things are really all about. That said, I pretty much hate that draft, CMicks. Although, I do think Foster is an amazing talent.

I did one as well, feel free to tear it to shreds!

Used Fanspeak with Draftek as the big board:
1st: Garrett Bolles, OT, Utah - (premium OT's are becoming more and more scarce in the NFL)

2nd: Bucky Hodges, TE, Virginia Tech - combo tight end the Giants have been waiting for

3rd: Cordrea Tankersly, CB, Clemson - Has the length the Giants like and great speed, plus represents great value in this spot. Can play a role right away if one of the top 3 go down, and represents a low-cost heir apparent to DRC when his time is up with the Giants (which could be after this season).

4th: Carlos Henderson, WR, LaTech - BBI favorite, but I think this is about where he might go. Very productive, can't ignore the production, even at the small school. Has enough speed and playmaking ability to be able to make an impact within a short span of his career, and can contribute on specials early.

5th: Marlon Mack, RB, USF - powerful runner, runs with reckless abandon (sometimes a little too reckless), but has enough speed to be a homerun threat. Day one, start putting him through the ball security drills, as he tends to let the duke hang out away from his body at times. But he has the makings of a star in the NFL... 6.8 ypc and 15 TDs at USF in his junior and final season, with a shade under 1200 yards in 12 games.

6th: Deangelo Brown, DT, Louisville - Big, thick guy with some explosion off the snap. Needs to use his hands better, and wish he was a little more agile. But the Giants have a need at DT and he's a good value here. Plus Sy likes him, 'nuff said.

7th: Jalen Myrick, CB, Minnesota - I've seen him projected all over the map. I'm sure he'll be drafted before this but in this mock he's not, so I'm taking him. Blazing 40 time at the combine, 4.28 seconds. The kind of athlete you want to coach up, and can contribute on specials.

Priority UDFA's:

Kareem Are, OG, FSU (cheating a bit here since he was drafted in the mock simulator about 3 picks before Mr. Irrelevant).

De'Angelo Henderson, RB, Coastal Carolina (in the unlikely event he's not drafted, like in this simulation).

Jamari Staples, WR, Louisville - Size-speed project.

Rayshawn Jenkins, S, Miami - He should be drafted, but wasn't in my simulation.

Xavier Woods, S, LaTech

Garrett Sickels, DE Penn St

Ben Braden, OG, Michigan - just need to add bigs to the OL room, hope to catch lightning in a bottle.
Just can's see going past rd 2 without a ILinemen.

I'm pro load up offense this draft. Can't see not throwing one of top 2 picks at OL.. Foster is the only MLB that would change my 1st rd choice over an OL, TE or RB.
not IL but OT or OG.
