"Hankins has been among those left hanging. It’s a surprise given that one defensive line coach in the market for a tackle prior to free agency said he was impressed with Hankins’ tape. In fact, he thought it was better than Poe’s this past season. Poe is a two-time Pro Bowl selection..."

Exactly right and given what they have for depth even if they do sign Hankins. DT should be one of our top 2 picks if they want to get someone with starting talent. And it looks like round 2 makes the most sense as there seem to be 5/6 possible picks in that round.
I do think we'll still need to draft a DT, but I'd rather do that while retaining Hankins.
Hankins was great in '14 and then came to camp in '15 way out of shape and it showed the entire season. He bounced back last season but not to the '14 level of production. I'd be hesitant to give him a long term contract.
Based on snap counts, Bromley outperformed Hankins at LDT and took most of the 4th quarter snaps when the Giants needed a pass rush.
He wasn't special. He flashed 'special", regularly in year two but hasn't much if at all since. Don't read me wrong he is a solid DT and his strength is stopping the run, but he couldn't hold snacks jock in that regard sooo...
How can they give him a one year deal given our cap situation? If they do that, they can't push salary into bonus $ and spread the cap hit.
So any General Manager watching the show will now be bidding for him pretty hard...

not sure the NFL knows or believes Hank is a $10M per talent yet. Suspect the NYG is closer to $6M, perhaps the one year prove it deal does occur in the end.

It's not ideal but they could find a few million to squeeze him in, but I don't know what ballpark NYG values him at.

Not great in 2015 before the injury. Was he that good in 2016 or was he the benefit of playing with Vernon, JPP and Snacks.

This - increase in weight has cut into level of play and lessened potential. If he can lose the weight I would want him back
I agree, Hankins has not been lights out as a DT, the Last two seasons.....solid, but not to the point where he commands big money.....
We have overpaid on several positions.....it's unavoidable in the NFL......but you can't pay everyone....the cap does not allow this.....
Even if JPP reaches a deal, it may only be a cap savings of 4-5M, if similar to Vernon's deal......last year, we carried a cap surplus of about 10M the whole season....right now we have about 5M......and I don't think Reese wants to go down that same road, that put him in cap hell after 2011....
then, revisit both next year at this time to coordinate.
JPP would have the choice to restructure next year so we can rationalize DL total
and to allow for an all offense draft
