- Tough break for Nimmo, outwith grade 1 hammy strain. Really nice spring to this point. No longer has a shot making the opening day roster which sucks for him but probably better in the long run
-3 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, BB, K final line for Crismatt vs. DR. Stuff won't pop off the page but solid line vs. a great team
-The Mets LHP relievers have not pitched well, to the point Adam Wilk has stood out, however Collins noted Wilk is not in the mix for the pen because of SP depth issues. Makes the Ynoa decision even more curious
-Minor knee surgery for Flexen, kid needs to stay healthy. Often dinged
-today RHP Noah Syndergaard, RHP Robert Gsellman, LHP David Roseboom, RHP Chase
Bradford, RHP Ben Rowen
I definitely don't overreact to spring training, but Reed is the kind of player where the Mets have no margin for error. Without Familia, if Reed is pitching batting practice, the BP turns from hope to survive until Familia returns to a major disaster waiting to happen.
I hope he gets is straightened out, but it's the kind of reason I wanted to add more legit veteran options to the pen.
I'd still give Papelbon a call.

Last I heard Papelbon is "dealing with a family issue". It was odd so little buzz about him.
I still have pretty major concerns about the bullpen.
Neither one of them is an ideal closer. There is a reason Salas had to settle for 1 year 3 million and it's not because teams think he's a closing candidate. If Reed doesn't have a good season the Mets are in major trouble. I'm not yet worried about him however.

Or blevins can close as well

Agree, and to be clear I'm not worried about him yet either, it's March 13. I am however worried about the backup plan if Reed just isn't Reed from the past two years.
I'd still look into David Robertson.
and he's not your typical closer.
Suspicion is they didn't want to cloud the positive vibes of the WBC with a domestic violence issue. Could be total BS but that's what people are guessing. His suspension is expected to be 30-36 games. If he gets more (without some waiver etc Familia would lose a year of service time and have to wait an additional year before FA and one would assume the PA would go nuts over that).
Jay Bruce is taking grounders at first base on the main field, Tebow is in the outfield and the Mets haven't released a lineup yet
I thought Tebow was done in Mets spring training games?

Collins said he wouldn't be appearing in games. The fields are right next to each other so he may yet be simply taking shags in the OF. Rosario was taking OF balls the other day before a game.
More
Tim Tebow playing LF for #Mets today. Had previously been no plans to bring him back over. Apparent shortage of players forced it. #LGM
A guy on the post-season roster to steal a base or just PR and defensive replacement.

I hate to have to couch this every time but I have nothing against Tebow and it's fine hes here but it's a joke claiming because of the WBC etc that Tim Tebow represents the next option. They must think we are idiots lol.
Is Smoker a viable candidate?
Is Smoker a viable candidate?
Wheeler is not an option. Both he and Warthen have noted he has residual soreness longer than most pitchers. He generally can't even pick up a ball until 3 days following a start (and this was pre-surgery) the other SP are back throwing after 2. Smoker has some upside but he may not even make the team let alone be the closer. Has to show MLB success before he would ever be considered for such a role. It's likely Reed, then Robles or Salas
Lugo, Wilk, Montero, Knapp, Gilmartin to open the season
Sucks both Nimmo and Flexen will miss the open of the season but what can you do? Sadly both guys have been injury prone to this point. Big season for both guys. Flexen hopefully can pitch well enough that he can be in the mix for starts down the stretch if they need another SP.
Sewald's spring has done nothing to chance my opinion on that.
I think he's only allowed one hit this spring. If we are truly taking the best guys forward he should be in consideration IMO.
I think he was already sent back to minor league camp
Could easily be Boscan over a guy like Gilmartin but seemingly Lugo, Wilk (just because TC mentioned him in the AAA rotation), Montero, Knapp would be 4 of the 5. Knapp is light on stuff so he might get smacked around in LV but I think he has a shot to be a big leaguer.
Rosario 3
Gsell 39
Dom 73
Dunn 77
Gimenez 82
Really surprised how few games have been televised. Then again, the Mets never seem all that intent on capitalizing on an excited fan base. Why no fan fest? "because it's hard to corral players in the off-season"? Please.

This spring absolutely sucked?

Seems strangely quiet this year. Today's game isn't even on the radio. For a home Thor start. Lol
Yup. Agree completely.
long man, Sewald, Blevins, Smoker, Robles, Salas, Reed (7)
Reyes, Granderson, Cespedes, Duda, Walker, Bruce, Cabrera, TDA (8)
Ty Kelly, Lagares, Reynolds, Wilmer Flores, R. Rivera (5)
Long man is probably between Montero and Gilmartin with Familia replacing whoever after April. There's also a chance we go with a 4 man bench and bring even another reliever in April (apparently the Mets dont want to push the starters early). If that's the case and Edgin pulls it together between now and the season they could bring 3 lefties north (Edgin out of options helps his case)
Wright would replace Reynolds if he makes it back eventually.
His cap is probably in the 180-190 range. No real reason they will need to curb his innings artificially. I'd prefer not having a guy go from short innings to long in-season, the reverse in terms of health seems like a better plan. Lugo has relatively few innings in his career, he could use some more.
Sandy Alderson just indicated on @MLBNetwork that Zack Wheeler's season limit will be around 125 IP. Dan Warthen had previously said 110ish.
