The post-combine consensus (or lack thereof)...

Milton : 3/14/2017 3:57 am
It's hard for me to get a feel for who will be available and who won't each round given such a lack of consensus among the prognosticators...

CBS Draft Scout Rankings

The Huddle Report Value Board (note: doesn't reflect injury to Sidney Jones)

Great Blue North Big Board

It's not like I expect them to be in lock-step, but there are prospects ranked 40 or 50 spots higher by one draftnik than they are by another (i.e., Tanoh Passagnon, ranked 124 by CBS, 82 by THR, and 96 by GBN).

It makes putting together a mock draft rather difficult. Maybe that's as it should be, but it puts a damper on some of the fun!
That's bc consensus says

It looks like there are 15-20 1st round grades and then 60 2nd round grades.

We kinda pick in a spot where we are very sensitive to whether or not 3,4,5 qbs get taken ahead of us.
Watch the tape of Passagnon...

Then you should know to drop him down.

Kpassagnon impressed a lot of people at Senior Bowl practices. Word was he had his way with Forrest Lamp in both one-on-one and team drills.

Boylhart had this to say about him...
Quote:
Tanoh is a raw yet talented and “potentially” dominating defense lineman for the team smart enough to select him in this draft. He has the potential to play in any style of defensive front on the inside and on the outside. He is tall, strong and extremely athlete with quick twitch quickness not seen in players of his size and length. His wing span and leg span alone give him advantages that most football players do not have. He is still growing into his body and with experience and learning better overall defensive lineman techniques this kid could be something really special.
Quote:
Right now he is accomplishing everything just on athletic talent and that means it’s time for him to learn. It’s time for him to cut down the amount of steps it takes for him to get to the quarterback. It’s time for him to learn how to keep players off his body and shed quickly and make tackles. It’s time for him to learn to put up his hands quicker to knock balls down with his God given height. Right now he is a man playing with boys but at the next level he will be a man playing against men and he has to improve his techniques or there is no level of athletic talent that will help him to succeed. After watching him at just one practice at the Senior Bowl and with just a little coaching this kid showed unbelievable improvement.

As prospects go, Kpassagnon reminds me somewhat of Margus Hunt, who was the 53rd pick in the draft but didn't live up to the hype.

I can put together my own rankings, but projecting how they will come off the board is another story. If I went simply by my rankings, my mock draft would just depress me. The fun of the mock draft comes from the belief that so-and-so will still be available in the 4th round despite the fact that he's a 2nd rounder in my book.

It's not like the Giants ever select the guys I projected for them. The closest I ever came was in 1997 when I had the Giants selecting Ike Hilliard and Tiki Barber in one of my mock drafts. Only problem was I had them taking Hilliard in round 2 and Barber in round 3. I think I had Dwayne Rudd in round 1. And it was probably some time in March 1997 that I put together that mock draft because by the time April rolled around it was already obvious to me that Hilliard wouldn't make it out of the 1st round and Barber wouldn't make it to round three.

Wow--that was 20 drafts ago! And I'm not even drunk.
The fun of the mock draft comes from...

...the back and forth with others imo. Which is increased if the pundits and talking heads aren't in lockstep. Makes it more interesting all around. Otherwise it's just mental masturbation over football prospects.

Let's be honest, it's mental masturbation no matter how you slice it!
