NFT: Knee injuries

giantgiantfan : 3/14/2017 1:28 pm
For those of you who have suffered knee injuries, at what point did you know you tore a ligament. Is it one of those things you know immediately like a bone break? I got rolled into hard running to home in a softball game last night. Definitely not broken but knee is jacked, can't really walk. Don't want to pony up the money for the MRI if its just a 2 week sprain.

Pain is on left outside knee where Quad/hammy seems to connect into knee. Perhaps ITB from what I can tell looking at diagrams.

Mine was an ACL, non-contact. Followed by swelling and immobility.

If you got rolled into, it could be a million different things. I wouldn't dick around and hope it goes away in a few weeks.

Aww fuck. I felt like I could go back in and then it just go worse and worse until it was basically stiff this morning. I guess I'll call my insurance and see what my options are.
Rest, ice, compression, elevation (rice)

Do that fairly often and take some nsaids. Go to an orthopedist and get an Rx for physical therapy. Do some physical therapy for about 6-8 weeks and if no noticeable improvement I suggest you get an MRI.

Thing is even if the mri shows there is some damage you may not want to operate, but that's for the surgeon and u to decide.

How's that for BBI medical advice?
I've

been suffering from tendonitis off and on (mostly on) for years. I wouldn't be surprised if there is a slight tear in there somewhere.

Anyway, I've been drinking tart (sour) cherry juice daily (not Ocean Spray, the one from the health food aisle). Haven't had any knee pain in a while. My uncle, who works construction, swears by it as well.

If you think you are really hurt definitely go to a doctor or a physical therapist, but I can't recommend this enough.
I busted my knee last weekend.

Slipped on wet ground and felt a pop. Right side of left knee. I kept it elevated for rest of the day and iced it. When I woke up the next morning I couldn't bend the knee and it hurt when I tried to bend. No pain when it was straight. Went to the doctor and they didn't think it was torn because there was limited swelling, they recommended that I get a leg brace from thigh to shin and check back in a week. 6 days later and the pain is almost gone.

My recommendation would be to go to your doctor and get a brace. The less you move it the quicker it will heal. Good luck!
I have a torn meniscus

X Ray doesn't show that in case you were wondering, so I needed an MRI. I was in pain for weeks until I finally went to ortho who called in the MRI. I decided not to have surgery, but instead got a cortisone shot and physical therapy. I've been managing quite nicely with that.

Not sure what might be your problem so I think you need an expert to evaluate you and do some tests to figure it out. Good hunting.
you can

get the MRI asap or risk walking with a painful limp for the rest of your days. Your call...
As a guy who's had 2 ACL reconstructions, and a meniscus tear,
drkenneth : 3/14/2017 6:44 pm : link
and needs a knee replacement- Don't mess around. Get an MRI. ACLs are strange...
