RIP Coach Dave Brazil

blueberry : 3/14/2017 1:31 pm
Former coach Dave Brazil was born in Detroit on March 25, 1936.
He spent his professional career coaching and teaching in Detroit area Catholic High Schools, various universities and the NFL, retiring from the New York Football Giants in 2003. Dave served under Jim Fassel, Dan Reeves and Ray Handley with a NY Giant career that spanned from 1992 to 2003. He was the last defensive coordinator for Chuck Knoll with the Pittsburg Steelers from 1990-91. He was coaching in the NFL before that with the Kansas City Chiefs from 1984 -1988. A brilliant football mind he specialized in defensive quality control and senior defensive analyst roles. Highly regarded for his break-down of game tape and opponent's tendencies in preparing defenses for weekly game plans; he was nick named "yoda" in the press in recognition of his wisdom and sage-like approach. His Giant career included coaching star players Lawrence Taylor, Jesse Armstead and Michael Strahan and on the staff of the 2000 NFC Champions. He was a resident of East Rutherford NJ during most of his Giant years and into his retirement years until his passing on March 10th. He will be remembered by his peers and colleagues in the NFL including head coaches John Fox and Sean Payton. Services will be in Royal Oak MI
