NFT: Snow totals?

Steve L : 3/14/2017 8:43 pm
Whatcha got so far? I've shoveled about a foot so far in Rochester and it's supposed to snow for another 12 hours. No school today for the kids and they've already cancelled tomorrow. We still have people without power from the wind storm we had last week. Not a good situation for us.

upstate NY got hammered

already took a pto day for friday. I'm off to Gore Mtn tomorrow! Only been there once, I want to check that place out some more. Seems like a pretty underrated mtn. It's got more vertical than some mtns in Vermont.
I just finished shoveling/snow blowing

about 2 feet of snow off of my property here in Kingston, NY. I'm someone who normally loves winter and snow, but this was a bit much.
I wanted to kiss the guy

who plows my driveway. He just finished doing everything about a half hour ago and I'm going to venture out now. What a fricking mess. 32 inches. Most we've ever seen in one day
24 inches south of Albany.

42 inches at a relatives house, south of Utica, confirmed by NOAA.
Totals from Quebec
Scott in Montreal : 3/15/2017 4:15 pm : link
Montreal got 42cm (16 1/2 inches)yesterday and Sherbrooke Quebec (90 minutes south of Montreal) won the prize with a huge 75cm (29 1/2 inches) yesterday.

It has continued snowing here all day so the totals are a bit higher. Here in Montreal we had a major accident that stranded 300 cars on Highway 13. Some people were stuck in there cars for 10+ hours.
Highway 13 - ( New Window )

What a joke. Why were these people still on the roads? They don't look plowed at all!
I went out
MookGiants : 3/15/2017 8:59 pm : link
to get some food and went over to a friends house to help them dig out. Holy shit it's like armageddon in Scranton. Most side roads not even passable, cars plowed in everywhere and people trying to dig out everywhere and throwing all the snow into the middle of the streets. Cars stuck everywhere. I've never seen anything like it
the idea that the forecasters get criticized because
Del Shofner : 3/15/2017 9:10 pm : link
this wasn't a "blizzard" in NYC is just crazy. First, NYC had a major storm - maybe only 8" of snow but that was topped by a crapload of sleet and freezing rain, and just walking around the city today - it's a mess out there, as much so as after a "blizzard."

But the main point - it's just a few degrees of temp in March that makes all the difference. Up in the Hudson Valley there is 2 -3 *feet* of snow. Like 3 or 4 degrees F and 50 or 60 miles makes a big difference. You can't predict those differences with precision in advance.

It was a big storm no matter how you slice it. I think those criticizing the forecasters are way off base. They mostly had it right.
anyone
MookGiants : 3/15/2017 9:59 pm : link
criticizing the forecasters right now is an idiot. The track changed at the last second, it's not like the storm never materialized. My area got nearly 3 feet of snow, the most we've ever seen in one day.

Those same people are the ones that ran guys like WeatherMan out of here. Fuck them. WeatherMan was a huge loss to the BBI community when he left here
Well over 30" here

5+ foot drifts. Me, 3 teen sons, and a snowblower took 2.5 hrs to clear it.

Just down 476 we got half of what you got near Allentown. Amazing what 70 miles will do.

This storm was supposed to track more off the coast but the day before, it all changed. I saw it coming 12 hours before the storm came. Saw the 24-30 inch totals we missed out on. 1-3 inches on Saturday and I think we will be ending winter and snow until next year after that. Temps start warming up around the 24th.
