Laura albanese of Newsday said weight will meet today to "talk about Halak". Rumors are he is back thursday and starting. Berube gets exposed to draft? Linus is on the radar for 2018?
It'll be discussed for sure, but there aren't any big rumors he'll play Thursday. If he does, great, but it wouldn't surprise me if it waited till the weekend.
Berube, as a Rule VI UFA won't be needed regarding the draft - he's as good as gone from the Isles, and doesn't fit the criteria as a player to protect. They'll leave Halak unprotected and hope he gets claimed. I think they'll lose one of Strome, Pulock (if left unprotected), Nelson or Cizikas.
And yes, Soderstrom is on the radar as a possiblity
but there are so many goalies out there for Vegas to choose from. My guess is they'll go with MAF.
Personally I'd rather lose a goalie, even if you believe his upside is 1-A... than a 2nd pair young Dman or 3rd line young forward. You can always get these 25-30 game goalies on the open market for ~a mil, and the position is so hard to project given all the mental aspects to their game.

I agree with you on losing a goalie being the preferable outcome. I guess it'll come down to what McPhee allots to goaltending salaries, as I think they're going to try to be competitive out of the gate. I believe building from the crease outward is the way to do that, so it depends on if LV wants to take on MAF's $5.75M/yr and solidify goaltending for the 2 years he'll have left on that deal, or looking at a Halak for a year at $4.5M, or a rising quality G like Raanta (who is only making $1M). There's even a guy like Philip Grubauer that McPhee may know from his WAS days who likely isn't protected given they have Holtby and highly regarded Samsonov waiting in the wings. And who knows what's going to happen in LA, so it's plausible Bishop ends up there.
As for the Isles, I don't think Halak will be selected (very happy if he is), so we need to come to terms with the fact we'll lose a player we like. I truly hope Pulock is protected, but as I mentioned, I think he, along with Strome, Nelson, Cizikas, de Haan or Hickey are the leading candidates to be claimed.
Not that it should mean anything if given the chance to sign him, but Philly just extended Neuvirth for 2 yrs at 2.5M per (I think). Buffalo would make a lot of sense, however.
As far as the ED goes, I'd also imagine one of the Stars goalies would be plausible as one will be exposed, although neither of them would be my pick.
If Halak is up. I just dont see Snow admitting his pet project sucks and was a waste of a roster spot all year and ruined our chances by upsetting a quality nhl goalie in Halak

I'd be shocked if he isn't. I think Ledecky & Malkin are less tolerant than Wang was. They may ask Snow.. "umm.. is this guy really the best option in a playoff race?"

Hope you're right. I dont think any of us can handle another game of Berube and I think we need our backup to play a few cause Greiss has kind of been up and down over past few weeks. Probably wearing down a little

He will be a great backup to Sorokin in a few yrs.
LOL
Hahaha
Truth is they should've tried to sneak Berube down in the beginning of the season.
Nobody knows what he is because he plays once a month. Bad personel management.

If I were Bishop I'd rather sign with Buffalo or Philly though. I'd be pretty surprised if he doesn't end up in Philly with Mason also an UFA.

Yeah but both of those guys have fat contracts and suck. Would be like Vegas taking Girardi or Staal (a man can dream). What's in it for them?
