this was the one I was looking forward to most, I thought it was very good. I hope they keep it somewhat separate from the MCU since their powers just seem far too great for the other pieces of the story, and I would hate for it to be watered/dumbed down just to fit in.
and turn it DC vs Marvel but the real issue is DC is trying too hard to mash a movie together to make it part of a bigger universe but without really connecting the dots.
Suicide Squad's orginal trailer looked awesome. The more trailers that came out the more I got worried that I had already seen the best parts of the movie. Then the movie itself was a miss mash of cobbled together scenes. The actual timeline of the movie seemed very hastily put together.
BVS, even the ultimate cut still has major flaws. But, at least the ultimate explains a bit more of the motivation of many of the characters. The BS dream within a dream sequence was still a joke and poorly done. On top of that, the CGI bs has to stop. They killed Doomsday by making it look absolutely fake. Marvel makes the HULK look pretty damn real within the movie but Doomsday was clearly not at all realistic or consistent.
DC needs to slow down and make movies that are connected before just TRYING to make one big movie... But, too late.

Agree about Doomsday.. As far as SS goes - the first trailer was definitely Ayer, then when more footage came out you could tell that WB got their hands on it. Ayer even said that he wanted Joker to be the main villain, a lot of Leto's scenes were cut out.
Also.. Matthew Vaughn is in talks to direct the next
I love Vaughn, can't wait for I Am Pilgrim. Not sure I want him getting sucked into DC though. I can see that derailing his other projects and WB seems awful to work with.

The biggest issue DC is having is that they are trying too hard to compete with Marvel rather than just focusing on putting out good movies. Man of Steel was a solid start, it did relatively well at the box office and it was good for a Superman origin story. From there they should have continued to build the universe rather than rushing into the Justice League just to keep up with the Avengers.
You want to introduce Batman as a seasoned vigilante that's been around for years and sees Superman as a threat? Fine, it was an interesting concept, and there were parts of that movie that were really cool, but why are you also throwing in Doomsday and the bullshit setup for Justice League? Flesh out Lex Luthor in BvS, introduce Wonder Woman, Flash, etc in their own films, save Doomsday for Man of Steel 2. After Man of Steel 2 you can focus on Bruce Wayne trying to get the Justice League together as a reaction to the death of Superman.
They tried cramming 4 films worth of material into one movie instead of taking their time to set up the shared universe.

Marvel focuses on story and DC doesn't. That's the main difference.
Think about the basic story arc of Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man, and Doctor Strange. In each you have clear protagonists/antagonists and understand their motivations, and their actions are consistent with their motivations.
Then think about the story arc of BvS and Suicide Squad. The stories are total messes in each of these.
Maybe someone like Vin can correct me if I'm wrong, but I distinctly remember reading about how Warner Bros, while Suicide Squad was still in post-production, liked the internet buzz from one of the later trailers so much that they actually had the team/company responsible for it (who up to that point had only ever produced trailers) do their own final cut of the film. They then took this final cut and the one done by the actual director, screened them for test audiences, and took the bits from each movie that tested best and mashed them together into a single franken-movie.
So yeah, not much of a surprise that Suicide Squad was an incoherent mess.
I really wish that they'd release I Am Pilgrim as 8 episodes on Netflix or HBO or something. One movie is going to have to truncate a shitload.
I agree, as pumped as I am for the movie, I can't help but think what will be trimmed off it to fit (which would suck because the stages of the story are imperative when trying to comprehend the scope of the planning and investigation).
We may see a trend of 'dark' vs 'fun' comic hero storylines
but the downside is the CGI. It works in small doses in the Avengers, but it would be hard to watch for a full length movie. I think that's part of the reason he wasn't re-introduced in a stand-alone prior to Avengers.
RE: We may see a trend of 'dark' vs 'fun' comic hero storylines
isnt working on a solo Hulk movie is that apparently Universal still has like distribution rights to any solo hulk movie. That is part of the reason they are putting Planet Hulk in a Thor movie.
Marvel can make Dr. Strange, Ant Man, and Guardians Of The Galaxy into must see blockbusters, but DC manages to fuck up Batman Vs. Superman.
I really want Wonder Woman to be a success and reverse the trend. Trailers look promising so far...
+1.
I'm cautiously optimistic about Wonder Woman. Aside from D.C's ability to screw everything up, the trailers look promising. The WW II time setting for this movie is a good move. Its what helped make Captain America a success
Dark: Deadpool, and now Logan have clearly opened a venue for R-rated comic movies.
Fun: Dr Strange, GoG, Avengers... a profitable track for the kid friendly viewing remains viable.
Now what to do with the Hulk? Bruce Banner on an R-rated vengeance-rage mission is very appealing to me ;-)
Disney would never let Marvel Studios put out an R rated movie, too much toy revenue would be lost by making a major release like the Hulk strictly for adults.
so anything Benedict does is fine with me. One of my favorite British Actors. I liked the special effects too and believe Strange is the one who will save the world from the big bad Thanos in the big Avengers movie.
I always thought that it'd be awesome to see DC & Marvel go this route with all of their characters and when it came time for the team up like Justice League & the Avengers those would be released on the big screen

Jerry, not trying to make this a DC vs Marvel thread but have you seen the BVS Ultimate Cut?
I did see it. The ultimate cut movie made somewhat more sense, but I still can't wrap my head around how this is the best they could do with Superman, Batman, and a handful of other iconic DC characters.
I believe they need some fresh blood at the helm. Zack Snyder is terrible and whoever came up with the "why not copy Marvel's blueprint but skip a few steps and make it grimdark" vision for the DC movie universe needs to go.
I am absolutely positive someone can and will make some good movies with the DC characters, but IMHO that has not happened yet (outside of the Nolan trilogy and the first two Superman movies back in the day).
None of us knew the Dr. Strange story so knew nothing going in. I loved it. One of my boys thought it didn't explain enough which I tend to agree with. But it was a great and Visually amazing movie.
Does he eventually work his way into The Avengers?

EVERYONE eventually works their way into the Avengers. Basically any super hero that has ever been in a Marvel comic book at some point has been an Avenger.
RE: RE: Dr. Strange - solid Marvel film but not top 3
1. Captain America: Winter Soldier
2. Iron Man
3. Avengers 2: Age of Ultron
Really? I thought Age of Ultron was just OK, especially compared to the first Avemgers film.
I can go either way on the two Avengers movie, but overall I just thought AoU was a slightly more refined film, especially with the presentation of the characters. People like Black Widow and Hawkeye were less one-dimensional and more meaningful in their roles, whereas in the first Avengers they could have been completely written out of the movie and no one would've missed them.
Definitely enjoyed it a lot, looking forward to seeing Strange integrated into the rest of the Marvel films.

I bet! Unfortunately I was crazy busy when it was released in theaters & I get a crazy headache when watching 3D

Doctor Strange would have been perfect for Netflix for this reason.
It only seemed fast because they had to cram it into a 2 hour movie.

No shit Sherlock. This has to happen.
1. Captain America: Winter Soldier
2. Iron Man
3. Avengers 2: Age of Ultron
1. Captain America: Winter Soldier
2. Iron Man
3. Avengers 2: Age of Ultron
My top 5 would be
1. CA TWS
2. Iron Man
3. GoTG
4. Avengers 1
5. CA CW
I really hope Iron Fist doesn't suck as much as the early reviews indicate.
1. Captain America: Winter Soldier
2. Iron Man
3. Avengers 2: Age of Ultron
Really? I thought Age of Ultron was just OK, especially compared to the first Avemgers film.
3: Strange
My prediction: they'll remove absolutely every semblance of humor and charisma with extreme aggression and prejudice.

5. Dr. Strange
Subject to change based on mood. Thor 2 and Iron Man 2 were sort of mediocre, but everything else has been pretty great in my view.

Really would've loved to have seen Supes go against Doomsday in his own film, alone.
