Not going to lie, I got a little dusty in the eyes at the end. I love that dude.
Signing him was so important to this franchise. Letting him get away would have been such a huge mistake. He looks primed for a monster year if he can avoid getting banged up.
Totally missed it earlier. Whoops. Still awesome. Worth posting more than once. lol.

Amazing what the motivation of making an opening day roster for the big club can do!
of right now I'm predicting they carry 3 lefties opening day.
In his last 6 appearances and his velocity has creeped up in his last appearance or two. Mayer had him at 93 yesterday. To me that actually makes Edgin and Blevins locks (because Edgin is out of options) and Smoker the favorite to beat out guys like Rowen and Sewald obviously (assuming they do want a long man).

Lucas Doubles Machine Duda hits his 5th of the spring.
Around 94/95 with his fastball. Spotting his curveball. Threw a slider 92.
Have to be happy with our top 3 who all look raring to go. Of the backend guys Harvey has been a bit of a bummer but we should have known we were going to have to be patient. Wheeler is hitting 97. Gsellman has looked good. We'll see how Lugo does against USA, which is essentially an all-star team, shortly.
having control issues this inning.

Eh. One walk. You could tell he was trying to throw all 4 of his pitches and was working on them. His stuff looks nasty.
Wainwright had a bad day but when our hitters weren't belting the ball around the field they were doing the little things. Taking patient atbats, walking, hitting sac flys. Real nice to see.
Wainwright, the Mets kind of own him, but I'll never forget 2006 NLCS and that nasty curve.
Good to see Flores tee off on a righty.
4th start of the spring and throwing 85 MPH fastballs? Yikes.

Stuff wise he was fine just had trouble locating, getting into deep counts, etc
If you consider that batting coaches have very little effect on hitters in general at all how good has this guy been? We have this discussion every year but every year there are more examples added to his ledger. Add Walker and Cabrera as two more examples. Both guys are coming off career years and both credit Long. Cespedes's patience at the plate is something he never had before coming here. He completely credits Long. Of course, we know about Murphy who's now a MVP candidate. Granderson was lost before reuniting with the guy and turning in the MVP Mets season of 2015. He's helped Duda hit lefties, Walker hit lefties.... Some of the video I watched this season with Conforto has me gushing.
All of this said, are we expecting a "Long effect" when it comes to Bruce? Almost every veteran has close to a career year here when teaming with the guy. Should we expect a slight bump? Will he be a little more patient? Will he buy in?

To be fair, I wasn't watching closely, but Keith described them as FB's. He's been known to get details wrong, though
To put this in perspective the Mets went years and years and years with hitting instructors that seemed to have very little effect on anything. Im not saying hitting instructors dont help guys get out of slumps, tweak things, ect. but generally hitting instructors don't change hitters. It's unheard of actually. This isn't to say he's going to help every young player that comes through the system and change a guy like Lagares into an all-star but the results so far have been pretty staggering.
Robinson Cano is another player who credits Long. I mean you are talking about 3 players he has changed into MVP candidates and countless other examples of him at least helping guys. That's crazy.
with Conforto on 30 clubs in 30 days.

Every Met starter with a hit. 14-1 now.
Keeps saying "My time will come, my time will come" and then referenced what happened to Justin Turner who was the same type of jack of all trades infielder before getting his chance. Love Wilmer's attitude.
when are we signing him up? Has his price dropped so we can keep TJ in AAA?

Reportedly prefers Atlanta if possible.
conclusion he'd sign with Atlanta and then get traded at the deadline for the Mets 20th prospect.
another scoreless. He's all but locked up a spot.
Offense looks great today and all. But the team had ONE hit all game yesterday. And it was fair only by about a foot... lol

Could care less about that. Im talking about tangible results Long has had with major league baseball hitters. I wasnt referring to spring training at all.

Hopefully unlike Turner, he realizes his potential here and not immediately upon leaving.

Going to be tough with Rosario, Cheech, and TJ all fighting for a spot or two. I could see him taking over at 3B though possibly and being a perennial 20 HR bat.
Flores wont be a super sub like Reyes and that he'll play primarily against lefties. Bleh.
numbers vs. righties. Let him earn it. Not saying he won't be WS contenders play "flawed" players to their strengths and limit playing them to their weaknesses. This is no longer "develop the young guys". It's produce.
last season 75 wRC+ vs. righties, TDA (horrendous season and all) 87
ever improve against righties if he never gets the opportunity. He had a double, a grand slam, and a walk all off righties today. There was a stretch when Wright first went down last year where Flores heated up and was hitting righties and lefties for a few weeks and then he lost playing time and struggled again.
There's nothing we can do. I get that. I'd love to just see him left alone for a few months and see what he could do but it's not happening on this team unless many injuries hit.
Im also fine with being a guy that crushes lefties. There's usefulness in that alone.
considering Reyes is the starter unless he is referring to when Wright comes back? If Reyes is the starter you would think Flores would have to be the first guy to give the infielders rest over somebody like Reynolds?
