The #Raiders and TE Jared Cook agreed to terms on a 2-year deal worth up to $12.2M, source said. The first year is fully guaranteed.

Carr has some fantastic weapons in Cooper, Crabtree and now Cook.

That's also a lot of Cs

At 6 Mil a year is a good deal. He played great down the stretch but needs to stay healthy. Raiders are doing some work
Peterson next for them?

Might be one of the top 3 most overrated players in the NFL over the last 10 years. Has great measureables, but they've never translated to the field. He's racked up a lot of garbage time stats on shitty teams. Everybody thought he was going to be a Pro Bowler going to play with Aaron Rodgers. Nope he wasn't any good last year. He had 377 yards & 1 TD with Aaron Rodgers at QB. You can plug basically any TE into that offense and they can outproduce that. Richard Rodgers is the definition of average player and he had 510 yards and 8 TDs in 2015.
Aaron Rodgers

Made him a lot of cash
When is Carr due his big contract?
UConn4523 : 3/16/2017 6:47 pm : link

Former Bills' first-round pick E.J. Manuel likely is signing with the Oakland Raiders, per league sources.
As for Cook
UConn4523 : 3/16/2017 6:48 pm : link
meh, that's a lot of money for a guy who's yet to put it together and stay healthy. They are paying for his upside which is fine since it's a short deal.

He was drafted with Beckham, but in the 2nd round so he's a UFA after 2017.

This might be the laziest analysis I've ever read. I don't dispute overrated, and if you want to call him injury prone - go right ahead.

The guy played 9 games this past year (disregard week 3 vs Detroit when he left early 1Q) and yet you are measuring him against full season statistics. Oh by the way they went 7-2 in games he played (ex week 3... which they did go onto win).

And his playoff statistics?
3 games
229 yards
2 TDs
I'm using averages
Big Rick in FL : 3/16/2017 8:59 pm : link
Not just the season stats. Even if he played the full season he'd have had 592 yards and 2 TDs. I'm comparing him to a guy who got a 4 year deal worth 2.7 million total. For all the hype he gets you'd think he would put up much better numbers than a guy whose been a career backup.

He averaged 37 yards and 0.10 TDs per game. Rodgers in 2015 averaged 32 yards & 0.50 TDs per game.

Do you really think a guy with those numbers had anything to do with the Packers going 7-3 in the games he played? Come on now. That's ridiculous.
I like the move
WillVAB : 3/16/2017 9:07 pm : link
Cooper and Crabtree are good players. Cook adds a vertical threat to take coverage off of the WRs.

Smart money is on them taking a RB in the 1st to complete the offense.
Cooks best season was in 2013
UConn4523 : 3/16/2017 9:11 pm : link
and he's regressed every year since either in ability, health, or both. If he was going to shine anywhere it would be in GB. Maybe he finally puts it together in Oakland, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Rodgers came out and credited their turnaround in part due to his health. Also, you are focused on the regular season when he only played 9 games, one of them hurt (i noticed you counted that game in your annualized analysis) - but ignored his 3 monster playoff games, i guess because the latter didnt suit your argument.

anyway, $6 million/year does feel a little rich here so i'm fine we passed. I also agree with the poster above that the guy should have taken a one year deal to stay in Green Bay and continue to grow with Rodgers.
Rodgers just said all kinds of nice things about him
Reese's Pieces : 3/16/2017 10:12 pm : link
and how he wanted him back.

The stats showed that Rodgers' play was greatly enhanced when he was on the field with Cook.

But I'm sure you guys know better than Rodgers. Maybe you can go to work for Pro Football Focus some day.

We should have signed Cook

Instead of Ellison. BIG mistake.

He's a player. The guy gets open and you have to gameplan for him. He finally had a QB and made plays. Hell do it again in OAk. Good love for Raiders

No he had a very good game
Big Rick in FL : 3/17/2017 2:04 am : link
In the playoffs against the Cowboys. Not going to take that away from him.

Didn't do much against the Giants & Falcons. Had a bunch of garbage time numbers against the Falcons. 73 of his 78 yards and his TD came after they were already down 31 points. Which is exactly what I said in my original post. A lot of his career numbers came in garbage time.
Oh and he didn't get hurt
Big Rick in FL : 3/17/2017 2:14 am : link
Early in the 1st quarter against the Lions. He left the game in the 3rd quarter. So even if you use 9.5 games for his yards per game he averaged 39 yards per game and 0.10 TDs per game. Which just isn't good when Rodgers is passing you the ball. He's an average receiver and he doesn't block. I don't get the hype for him on here.

The guy has 1 TD in his last 29 regular season games. If he played for the Giants and had those numbers people here would be calling for his head.

The Packers obviously didn't think that highly of him. Weren't even willing to give him 6 million guaranteed for 2 years. They made a great move letting him go and signing Martellus Bennett.
I wonder how Tye would do, playing for Rodgers?
