"Sony may have finally made nice with Marvel and allowed everyone’s favorite web-slinger, Spider-Man, to appear in the MCU, but the studio is still going to make Spidey movies of their own. On Thursday, Sony confirmed that a long-awaited spinoff movie focusing on one of Spider-Man’s most notorious villains, Venom, officially had a release date.
There was chatter about a solo Venom movie as recently as last year, but now Slashfilm reports that Venom is set to infect theaters on October 5, 2018. The movie, which Sony is reportedly eyeing as a franchise opportunity, will not be part of the MCU, and the villain won’t interact with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. It’s unclear if there’s going to be a second Spider-Man played by a different actor swinging around or if Venom will truly be a solo outing.

Hopefully SONY won't F it up again. They have a perfect opportunity to introduce the alien costume in Infinity War, but we shall see.
Should be interesting.. - (

I really am just hoping that this doesn't close the door on Venom in the MCU because I don't think anyone other than Marvel Studios can pull it off.
No. We get a lame Zemo in Civil War, hell they should've used Red Skull as much as Loki!
Maybe not Venom.. but the symbiote

Why would you think they would introduce Venom in Infinity War when theyre saying this isn't part of the MCU? It will be a Sony-only franchise, not shared with Marvel Studios/Disney.

They're going to be struggling to have all these characters on the screen at the same time, I have a hard time seeing them work a Venom/symbiote story line (while a separate Venom franchise is being developed by Sony) into Infinity War, too. But, we shall see!

maybe as an after credit, if Sony gives Marvel money
Venom is tough to pull off without being reimagined. He is beyond roided up in the comics, which hasn't been very successful beyond the 90s in action films.
Lol Lots more venom fans than Rainbow Brite on this site
Although hard to see a Venom film working without Spiderman involved somehow. Even if it's just a short cameo.
Two ways I can see it working is to make it a strict R-rated horror film. Have a scene like Aliens, where a group of astronauts find a living organism in space and have the symbiote take over one of them as the host and kill off the rest of the astronauts in a typical horror film sequence to start the film. Then have the space ship arrive back to Earth, where the symbiote wants to kill people but the human host forces it to only go after criminals. That's a possibility.
Another possible way, copy Deadpool have Venom break the 4th wall and interact with the audience. This way he can make fun of Peter Parker/Spiderman, without really involving him in the film. Breaking the 4th wall also would be a good way of getting his origins explained to the mass audience where majority don't know his backstory.
Interested to see who they cast for this film and in what story direction they would go with.
I wouldn't say that part sucks about the MCU, because if they did have access to those bigger name characters then we might not have gotten an Ant-Man, Doctor Strange or GotG films based on their 2nd/3rd tier characters.
FOX will milk the X-Men forever, especially with Deadpool breaking so many box office numbers and Logan getting so much critical acclaim. So can't see them letting the rights ever go back to Marvel\Disney.
Sony thankfully let Marvel Studios to add Spiderman into the MCU but will never let the rights ever go back to Marvel\Disney.
Those are the only two Marvel franchises that Marvel/Disney doesn't own the rights to that anyone cares about.
I could care less about the Fantastic Four or if FOX puts out another crappy adaptation in 5 years to retain the film rights.
Universal has given back the rights to Marvel/Disney for Namor.......although while Marvel/Disney own the production rights to the Hulk, Universal own the rights to distribute any individual Hulk film. Which is why Marvel Studios has not released any new stand alone Hulk films, instead using him in the Avengers and also throwing the Planet Hulk storyline into a "Thor Movie".
