We're a party of seven at the 9:15 am screening on Sunday, Row B center: One wife, three daughters, a sister-in law, a niece, and the dude with the credit card.
At least the reclining seats at our local AMC are comfortable, and the morning shows are half-price. Who's with me, men?
At least Emma's cute.
In fact, my daughter just sent me this pic of the girls getting ready to watch the movie
They're theater lounge chairs - pretty common these days. I've taken them to another one where the lounge chairs are much more plush, but don't have a food tray as the sides are trays. Kids these days don't know how good they have it compared to when I was a kid. Note the 3D glasses on their trays. The only 3D movie I saw as a kid had paper glasses with a red piece of plastic on one side and blue on the other and it was really crappy 3D. Hell, I remember when I was 12 and I saw television in color for the first time. Our rich friends invited us to their house to watch "Wizard of Oz", so when Dorothy landed in munchkinville, I saw color for the first time and was blown away.
Yeah, most younger people don't realize that until color TV was invented the whole world was in black and white. You had watch the TV to see colors in real life. Kind of like Pleasantville.

Wise ass....lol
And I also found out tonight she's afraid of leprechauns. That's actually understandable. Leprechauns are creepy. I may have to throw out the Lucky Charms.
I'm sitting on the couch dressed in my gown - shorts and tee shirt - watching basketball. God bless em.
No one's slick as Gaston
No one's quick as Gaston
No one's neck's as incredibly thick as Gaston's
For there's no man in town half as manly
Perfect, a pure paragon!
You can ask any Tom, Dick or Stanley
And they'll tell you whose team they prefer to be on
They kept it close to the original, which is good because I don't like when they redo the show to fit an agenda.
One minor letdown for me: "Be Our Guest". Orbach's riff on Chevalier left nothing for Ewan McGregor to do but try to keep up. McGregor is at his best when he's charming Plumette. Orbach's cartoon candelabra was just kind of lecherous.
This is a weird admission, but one distracting thing for me was Emma Watson. I think that I had heard too much about her refusal to wear a corset because of feminism or whatever but I think that even though it's a fairy tale, it is still a period piece and the gowns called for a corset. I mean she couldn't wear a bra because it's a period piece. So, I think I focused too much on how much she lacked any sort of cleavage. On the whole she was okay...she's grown up cuter than I expected she would after watching Hermione, but I don't think that she's any great Beauty. I mean if you have horns and are covered with fur, you're likely not too choosey, but Gaston...?
couldnt have been happier
Just curious to hear if anyone else saw something similar at their local theaters? Disney must be making $$$ like crazy over this movie.
I thought the movie was in big trouble when she started singing Belle/Provincial Life, but the rest of the cast was very good. Disney was wise to tune down her main vocals and increase the volume of the supporting cast and instrumentals during her songs.
The CGI isn't Star Wars quality but who cares ? I'm not sure what the standard is for a talking candlestick and teacup.
My neighbors took their 9 and 5 year old and they said it was fine. That said the 5 year old (boy) was bored and wanted to leave, but that's that age and it not being a cartoon.

suitable for a 4 year old?

yeah nevermind then. My 4 year old didn't take to Pete's Dragon (live action) either

As I pointed out in an earlier post, I took a bunch of 8-9 year old girls where I met up with my daughter who just got out of work and took over from there. She had bought the tickets well in advance and yes, there were people trying to get in that were finding out there were no more tickets available. That was in Binghamton.

I took my 4 year old son on Saturday, he loved it. We had taken him to see Pete's Dragon and The BFG in the past, he didn't like either of those due to them not being cartoons, but this one kept him engaged because of all of the music. I think he started to check out a little during the last 20 minutes because the musical aspect of it died down a bit toward the end, but he was pretty zoned in for almost 2 hours prior to that.

Spike, if your 4 year old liked the animated film this was based on, then she'll like this version too.
Only questionable scene was when Gaston fell off the roof and died. Initially, I thought they would show him falling and then pan the camera over the Bell and Beast. But they actually kept the camera on Gaston as he was falling to his death and you heard a "thump". It's fine for kids in the 6-7+ range but might be iffy for a 4 year old. Good luck in what you decide.
