Ramczyk in Round 1

Samiam : 3/17/2017 6:07 pm
I'm guessing that if he checks out medically, there's no chance he'll be there at 23, and, if he doesn't check out, he'll be there but we won't take him. If he does check out and we get reasonably close, I could see Reese pulling the trigger on a trade up. If he doesn't check out and we trade down, something I think is unlikely, it would be interesting if we take a chance on him

But I just don't see the Giants using one of their top resources (1st round pick) on an OL in the first. Odds are he will sit on the bench and not help out on specials. If they think he can beat out the right side of the OL then they would probably do it. In today's NFL you need your draft picks to contribute. If an OL is not starting he isn't contributing. I think a TE, CB, DT, LB, pass rusher, and possibly RB are more likely with the talent that should be available with out pick.

And I am on the Ramczyk bandwagon. I would love for him to he the pick.
To add,

I think it is much more likely we draft an offensive lineman later in the draft which is one reason why Davenport's name keeps coming up.
Kirwin and Miller on Sirius

Have them picking Malik McDowell

I'm hoping for Njoku Lamp or Reddick
Just can't see it?
Mike B from JC : 3/17/2017 6:18 pm : link
Injured and only 1 year major college ball. No thanks. Rather have a impact defender. I can see them taking a moten in the 2nd or 3rd. Or Hawkins in Rd 3 though

The tape on McDowell is very impressive. He's very athletic, but IMO, not strong enough for DT.
I want Reddick. Think
LauderdaleMatty : 3/17/2017 6:26 pm : link
He makes the D insane.

The OL and TE the next 4 rounds. The OL is dying for depth.
Right now I'm leaning Reddick/Cunningham or one of the CB's
Torrag : 3/17/2017 7:14 pm : link
That's where the value will be when we're on the clock imo.

I want Ramczyk, Bolles or Williams...or OJ in a pipe dream.
yatqb : 3/17/2017 7:23 pm : link
But I think that either RR or Bolles would be odds on favorites to start for us, whether at LT or RG.
Ramczyk
Paulie Walnuts : 3/17/2017 7:25 pm : link
would not surprise me

They've drafted two OT's in the first recently, but haven't gotten one yet. Maybe third time's the charm! ;-)

Don't get that. Even Ernie Accorsi, who didn't believe in drafting O-linemen in the 1st, left an exception for "a stud tackle." They've drafted two tackles in the first in the last few years, as noted above, but still don't seem to have their franchise OLT.

I agree with the OP this far: If they really like Ramczyk, and he falls past about #15, they might very well trade up to get him, especially if they feel the alternatives aren't so great.

A trade down is also possible if they don't like what they see on their board when they're on the clock at #23. But I think somebody they like a lot will be there. If they're determined to get an O-lineman early, though, a trade becomes more likely, either up to get a guy they're targeting, or down if they don't like the value they'd get on a lineman at #23.

and George Young
Whomever drafts
TommyWiseau : 3/17/2017 8:38 pm : link
Reddick is going to get a great player. Kid is all over the field. He would turn this defense into the best D in the league especially if we resign Hankins
This is not a draft
Mike B from JC : 3/17/2017 8:41 pm : link
For a first Rd. OT. It's a weak draft for that position. So you want to take a chance on another flowers? Bolles and ramzyc have a chance to bust. Take the BPA first, I'm all for getting a OT but in a Rd. Where the OT is BPA which is not going to be Rd.1
Biggest draft needs?
rasbutant : 3/17/2017 8:59 pm : link
DT?
OT?
G?
LB? all three!

Wants
RB
TE
WR
CB
S
QB
If he is the BPA on their board then you make the pick at 23
Rick in Dallas : 3/17/2017 8:59 pm : link
They do not need to reach just to draft an OL in first round.

Totally agree. From a need perspective OT is obvious, but there are some good options this year from a BPA perspective that they can't pass up on if they fall to them. I'm honestly not even opposed to a first round DE even though we have about 32 million a year assigned to the two starters. There's a reason we are the only team to beat Brady, it's because we not only hit him, but clogged the passing lanes with hands and arms of DEs playing both outside and at the DT spot. The Falcons did it for three quarters and couldn't close the deal.
The Falcons lost for one reason, they were stupid
Torrag : 3/18/2017 12:40 am : link
Run the ball in the second half and win the game. Yes, it really would have been that simple. The Pats had skewed the time of possession heavily against them in the first half despite the 28-3 score. Any intelligent halftime analysis would have told Quinn he needed to run the clock and minimize his defenses exposure and he had the game won.

Not even Brady could have gotten them all the way back if Quinn and Shannahan hadn't left the door open and the light on.
When folks talk about all the better options at 23 I wonder who they
yatqb : 3/18/2017 1:27 am : link
are referring to. Guys like Cunningham, Marlon Humphrey, Kizer and Engram (just to name a few who might be there at 23)m seem to have the same question marks as Bolles, Ramczyk, Lamp and Robinson. If the LTs are in the same row as other positions, it's just as reasonable for the Giants to choose one of them as it is for them to choose someone else who MIGHT make an impact elsewhere.

Bolles lamp ramczyk in that order followed by mccaffrey reddick Cunningham mcdowell. Can grab a tight end later I don't believe Njoku bust to boom talent warrants a first round pick

I think the odds are that Ramczyk is already well ahead of Flowers when it comes to technique. Flowers may have more upside than Ramczyk, but Ramczyk already has a higher floor. Just my opinion.
I would be happy with

Bolles, Watt or Reddick in the first.
